Is Orange now only doing 18 month contracts?
Options
My 12 month contract ends this month and I called Orange to see if I could get an upgrade and they offered me a free phone and a good tariff but only on 18 months. I asked for a 12 month contract and they said that Orange stop doing this. Is this true?
This is the deal I got and not sure whether to take this up.
Current Tariff:
12 month. 240 x mins. 50 text. 6mb data. - £29 pm
Offered Tariff:
18 month. 225 x mins. 100 landline mins. 75 text. 5mb data. - £20 pm

No - it's not.
When it comes to upgrading, Orange CS will only tell you what they want you to believe - if they have sales targets to meet for 18 month deals then they will simply try and make you believe that that is all you can have. 12 month contracts are still alive and well on Orange.
FWIW...I've had this lie thrown at me on more than one occasion before when trying to negotiate a Vodafone renewal...however, I am now on a 12 months renewal deal, thus proving the lie.
Simply use one of the many contract mobile phone price comparison services available to see what you can get on a new 12 months deal and throw that at Orange as your justification for wanting nothing less than a good 12 months renewal deal.
If they don't play ball, just ask for your PAC so that you can take your number onto another network. The mere request for the PAC is often enough to start cogs whirring at Orange towers and, if they don't offer you something there and then on the spot, you may well receive a call back within 2-3 days as your details get passed to their retentions department.

So is a 12month contract better than an 18 month?0

I would say so. Not being locked in for that extra 6 months could end up saving you a lot of money, plus, if you're one of these people who always want the "latest" phone (I'm not) you are getting a new one every year.......Gettin' There, Wherever There is......
I have a dodgy "i" key, so ignore spelling errors due to "i" issues, ...I blame Apple0 -
Also, how many of todays phone's will last 18 months !!!
I've a 6680 with is just over 12 months and I can't see it lasting another 6... I'm betting that if it fails and I try to claim under care it's be a case of ware and tear and not covered !!0 -

I agree. My contracts now up, and my phone (SE w550) is falling apart. They wouldn't play ball with me, so I got my PAC and I'll be on my way back to Voda or o2.0 -

Hmm, they don't make them like they used to anymore! My K700 is about three years old and as still doing a fine job. I also have a T39 which is about 5 years old and is alive and kicking.
On the otherhand I had a K750i which got damaged within about 3 months of owning it."An eye for an eye leaves the whole world blind" - Mahatma Gandhi0
