Here's the post about advice for a student I mentioned earlier. I was gojng to quote it but it's on another thread from someone who doesn't post mush (or ever) here so I don't know the etiquetteInteresting outlook - when I graduated I had a trip to the US for 3 months lined up but not a job just the intention to find work when I got there then when I got back I temped a bit then went to work in a ski resort - there is quite enough time in life to be sensible and have a job but once you start getting ties the option to do anything else other than a job closes off completely. Surely with the way the student loans work (after my time) there is no penalty from not starting to work straight away?
It depends what you want to do. If you want the kind of job that's going to have thousands of other graduates applying for it, then it's probably a good idea to be reasonably focussed and get relevant experience in advance that will give you an edge when it comes to applying. On the other hand, with a career like mine (teacher of a shortage subject, so thousands of jobs and not all that many wanting them) you can afford to take a more circuitous route if that's what you feel like doing. What he did clearly worked for him, and what you did has worked for you.Do you know anyone who's bereaved? Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.0 -

Thanks s5 we got a couple of CDs out (well off the hard drive) last night, no longer worrying about sounding old, they don't make 'em like that any more. (Not that I am complaining that the Metro has found an excuse to run Rhianna photos every day last week).I think....0

I love Etta James. The raw funk stuff she did as a contemporary of James Brown, which is a bit more rare, is well worth looking out. She also did a storming version of I'd Rather Go Blind. Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? I am a huge Etta fan....a voice with real life in it.
Re stairs, don't particularly like from a sitting room unless in. Cottage, but do like them from a dining room, which then imo becomes a dioning hall....and something a little less usual.
Lydia, i hadn't noticed that on your stairs, but it doesn't surprise me. The house feels solid, secure and well built.
Love the look of floating staircases......think the reality would be something different.0 -
Always fancied a spiral staircase- they're popular in the Netherlands as a space-saving measure. Heavy items like beds are usually lifted upstairs outside the building and put in via the windows.
Nandos is good. I've met people who don't like spices and can't stand piri-piri, (or curry, chili, cajun, creole, szechuan). I'm the opposite: if I eat plain food for too long I start to get withdrawal symptoms. There is no honour to be had in not knowing a thing that can be known - Danny Baker0 -
Shattered. Might never go put again. Today has been drama after drama. The hunt came past, so had to call a livery client to cme and check the horses during the day....house sitter is not horsey. Then the cat this morning, and tonight big dog has had a funny turn and i have been on the phone to the emergency vet, For some reason it took me three hours to drive into london, and for some other reason i let dh drive home, so it to even longer to get back.....the one thing he is not is a nippy driver. Fifty bloody miles an hour on tha m25 from the wrong side of Town, when i'd suggested that route as the traffic centrally was so slow on the way in.0

Oh dear. Sounds stressful. You seem to have arrived at the end of the day without any major disasters, though, so congratulations on that!Do you know anyone who's bereaved?
