Board is sadly devoid of anything resembling debate.I wonder if that may be because things are so uncertain nobody really has a clue how they will pan out and each little piece of 'evidence' is far from conclusive so instead opinions become entrenched through the reiteration of the same old debates? You should start some threads.
That always sparks adult debating
It's our board too though so maybe it is time to take it back. I'm not personally interested in threads about house prices, because I think while it is very entwined in people's attitudes it will be more of a lagging indicator than a leading one. However there has never been a more interesting time to talk about the economy given that the internet wasn't around in 1929 (along I suspect with all of us) and we shouldn't be driven out of a logical meeting point by a bunch of sockies. I want to hear fc's opinion on retail, and Gen's on finance, jelly's on the public sector, purch's on the US economy and Hamish's on (no sorry Hamish not house prices but) the Middle East. Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? Breaking news today (Telegraph) is that the captain of the Concordia tripped and fell and that's why he was in a lifeboat. It's also been revealed that the lifeboat he was in also contained the second and third in command. This is so implausible that I think it can only have been a Hendrix type trip and not a stumbling type one.
I'm very saddened by the Concordia sinking. Cruising is one of my favourite types of holiday and I've been through that channel on several different ships. To think that the captain was so blatant is chilling. I'm also amazed that they didn't do the safety drills before leaving port. I've been on P&O, RCI, NCL and Disney and they all did pre-departure drills. Very sad. Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? The poshest shower I've been into had a radio and was bluetooth enabled.
Or maybe I should say the saddest shower I've been into because why one needs to be 'connected' even at shower time is beyond me.
I agree with vivatifosi -you should make sure a fly doesn't follow you in when you get into one of those :eek:There is no honour to be had in not knowing a thing that can be known - Danny Baker0 -

I'd buy mac but secondhand every time, as I can't afford a new one either. Like cars, I don't buy new and (unlike cars)always use ebay.
I'm buying an intel mac for my dad so he can use his kindle and ipad and tomtom (he's more technophilic than I am)! I figure £400's a good ballpark figure (desktop that is). Don't know lots about their laptops, will ask DD.
I'm getting good use of a ten-year old G4 mac that still does most of what I need.
There's threads about this elsewhere, probably ones I've posted on if I can remember where! There is no honour to be had in not knowing a thing that can be known - Danny Baker0 -

Sinking ??
...looks more like it's fallen over
A tragedy that anyone would die whilst on such a vessel, but in such circumstances the word tragedy doesn't begin to cover it....'In nature, there are neither rewards nor punishments - there are Consequences.'0 -
I went in a funny capsule shower thing that lied like the nineteen seventies version of the startrek one. It was quite claustrophobic. It was also fill with Paul Mitchell shampoo and conditioner bottles, which always look v retro to me too. This was in the early nineties I think.0

Anyone else found the comparisons to the Titanic highly annoying?
"It was just like the Titanic"
No it wasn't
My heart goes out to the people who have perished on the Concordia, but it was nothing like the Titanic.0 -

Windy 7 is far superior to Vista (not a tough ask !!!) but I think it is still not a better option than XP.
I mastered point and click many years ago, but on 7 things just appear when you point, which is very unnerving not to say annoying
I have a Linux Ubuntu version on a lappy, and love it, apart from when it get's all complicated and starts talking about packages and depositories, then I switch it off and go back to XP 'In nature, there are neither rewards nor punishments - there are Consequences.'0 -

To be fair, I think a lot of the comparisons to the Titanic are to do with size. Wasn't the Titanic the largest passenger carrying vessel to have sunk? I have previously sailed on the Achille Lauro but I think that was half the size of the Titanic when it went down.
The Concordia was a lovely modern ship which should have had many years more life in her, just like the passengers who had the misfortune to lose their lives. I'm very, very angry with the Captain. As DH who works in airline safety says "can you imagine what it would be like if we left the safety briefing until after the meal service?"Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing?
