British Gas price fix customer - no reduction

Have received both a letter and an email - Turns out I'm on Price Fix 2010 which means lower prices than the reduced ones.0

Situation Changed?
On the BBC just now it stated that BG have now decided to waive the charges for leaving their all Price Protection tariffs - although the only one this affects in practice is PP April 2009; PP2010 is currently cheaper than anything else on offer; although that could change of course.0 -
I just wondered if the price of gas had reduced if you would be asking for an increase in your tariff? Surely you fixed for security of payments (as in a fixed rate mortgage) and it was a gamble that may still pay off before April 2009, but you can't have it both ways.0

Bit puzzled over this as i know this to be incorrect based on current prices.
BG Fix 2009 Gas rates are (ALL RATES GIVEN INCLUDE VAT)
3.520 for the first 4572kWh per annum
2.611 thereafter
£15per month covers approx 5303kWh
Ebico charge 2.55p per all kWh used costing £135.22 per annum or £11.26 per month.
Easy sums too 2.55p x 5303 (kWh) = 13522.65p / 100 = £135.22
This is on existing prices too, also depending on area you can save up to 20% against BG price fix 2009 (april version) if you shop around for the best deal online with one of the major suppliers.
Electric depends on area so i did not include any info.
Definitely worth getting some quotes all major supliers have updated their online prices since December 20060 -

I agree that those of on PP2010 and PPApr 2009 have absolutely no gripe if we lose out on our 'gamble'.
However the penalty for leaving the Price Protection tariffs was really quite small in relation to the annual costs of Gas/Electricity so any substantial reduction below the PP tariffs would make it worthwhile to pay the penalty.
Anyway it would appear that BG have waived those penalties.
You also have to think long term. I am on PP2010 so am still paying well below the latest tariffs. Even if all prices reduce again to below PP2010 it still will not be an easy decision to leave that plan. You have to guess what will happen over the next 3+ years as once you leave the plan, you wont get back on if prices go up again in a year or two.0 -

Agreed I think BBB got this wrong as I stated in post#11 above. That applies to the latest BG prices let alone other companies.0 -
Interesting to read post about British Gas increasing direct debit evn though account is in credit. British Gas have just increased my monthly direct debit from £28 per month to £46 per month even though my quarterly usage of electricity is pretty constant throughout the year and I was only in debt to them by approx. £16 on last bill!! They say that their system works out the changes automatically and they cannot change it!!0
