Sony tv picture freezes

Hi.
I don't know if anyone can help,we bought a new Sony tv just before christmas but the picture on itv ch4 ch5 4+1 and several others are continually pixellated, freeze or go off. All other channels are fine as was the tv we had in the lounge before. We have tried retuning several times but it makes no difference. All other tv's in the house work fine. I have rang M&S who we bought the tv from but all they say is retune, the signal is poor, wait until April when the switch over is complete, none of which is any use to us. I can't understand why all the other tv's work fine. Any idea's? Can I ask for a refund/replacement?

  • Do you live near a railway line?
when it's frosty we suffer from this problem with the arcing on the overhead lines.
And the line is at least half a mile away!
  • Try it in a different aerial socket first (one where the other TV is OK)

Is your aerial on the roof or in the loft?
That gum you like is coming back in style.
  • Problem is with the antenna or the co-axial cable. The coax should ideally be replaced every 5 to 7 years. The problem you are having is purely because the signal for freeview at Waltham is on low power. When analogue is switched off it'll be a lot better.
  • Thanks for all your replies, I can see what you mean about waiting until April but why do all my other tv's work?

It's because there will always be slight differences in sensitivity from one TV to another, and the Sony is probably slightly less sensitive than the others.
