I know where your coming from jack. But media for example is getting bigger in file size, which requires faster and faster processors to get the time down when encoding.
    Games are an obvious one
Multitasking (Of which I do loads)
    Bigger and flashier web pages
More and more nasties coming onto the scene requiring more sophisticated anti virus programs (I know this is a bit of a 'none' issue really, but I do wonder if my workplace keeps updating their computers because they run the horribly slow Mcrapee. Its shocking how slow they are considering they have 4Gb RAM and dual core 3GHz processors)
Animation and photography programs etc etc

So yes, the average 'web browsing' user could use my 6 year old computer no problem. But there are plenty of users that will use the extra procesing power

I do understand RIK, really I do, but I would have to say you're a power user (I might try being one if I had a pc to sustain it ;):):D ).....

But I seriously suggest that's only a very small percentage of all users....whatever it is, there's always a case for making something faster/smarter/better for the top few in that field, but for mr average or below, it's completely under-utilised :(

BTW, I know what you mean if you're still working where you were, anything that CSC touch seems to go to ratsh1t, why on earth, for instance, do you need 80+ processes running at idle on XP Pro ???????????????

Agreed on all fronts Jack. And yes, still the same place (for now, redundancies are pending)
