Paypal payment for gumtree item

Person wants my item on gumtree posting, which is fine.
They have offered to pay via paypal or do an account transfer.
I am assuming account transfer is not a good idea??
Also assuming paypal payment has the same protection as if the item was sold on ebay, both for buyer and seller?

I disagree with eeeee and personally would grab a bank transfer before buyer changes their mind.
I would not under any circumstances accept paypal though as all the protection is for the buyer- there is no advantage at all to a seller in accepting paypal.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. If someone pays by bank transfer they can't claim the money back. Paypal only protect the buyers and their are so many scams on gumtree in regard to paypal scams.0

Always go for a bank transfer, if you're worried about you're bank account details, get them to pay it into a savings account or such which isnt you're main account.0

Actually, that is not a bad idea and may need some more thought. The ONLY thing someone can do with yoru bank details is to set up a direct debit to an official body which is of course easily cancelled, they cannot do anything else. By making transfers into a savings account that is not capable of having direct debits set up even that tiny little worry is covered.
I think this would be a win win situation for any sellerI’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. Sorry to jump in on this post but I have the same query. I have a item that I have posted on Gumtree as a cash on collection but someone has asked to post it. I was nervous as i wasnt sure what to do about the money transaction and the best way to protect myself. If you insisted on a cheque then you would have to wait before it cleared before you posted the item I presume.0

AS above ask for a bank transfer and post day after it arrives in your account.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards.
