all that does is send the signal from your remote to (in your case) the VM box downstairs, while you are upstairs
so if you have a coax feed from the dowstairs box,you can change channel
with that set up,you can only watch the same channel as downstairs
theres a gazzilion options/ways to do it
however its obviously dependant on what you have/want/spend

Yes thanks, that's really what I thought initially when I looked at the things but. . . . .:o
I have in the past plugged the (loft) aerial into a Virgin connection and managed to view a single channel that's previously selected downstairs so in theory this will enable me to switch between channels now however . . . . the picture quality was not that great because of the cables/connections involved so ideally I will need to install a shorter more direct cable to get best possible picture quality.

It's not a major priority to be frank but I may reconsider the extra box at some point - maybe Virgin will be helpful as others have suggested?

The video senders are good way to send the signal wireless, but you do need to be careful as to which ones you buy, as some remote controls won't work on the video sender (sky + uses irda). Not sure on Virgin boxes, but if it does use irda then you need to make sure the sender can use irda as well.
