Edinburgh is lovely Q, We normally stay at the Novotel a few miles from the centre, but don't eat there. It is not as nice as the Leeds Novotel etc.
McDonalds, not the burger chainIs lovely for a meal.
St Giles cathedral is breathtaking.Life is short, smile while you still have teeth0 -

Last time we went to Edinburgh we stayed at Elmview B&B. It was fantastic, I couldn't recommend it highly enough. They are consistently ranked no1 on TripAdvisor and they live up to the reviews.
The castle is fantastic, as is the Camera Obscura and botanic gardens, and you can just spend time wandering around the beautiful streets.
Each time we go I promise myself we will eat at the Witchery, it looks wonderful, but we haven't done it yet
Love Edinburgh, I would go much more often if we had the choice:)Debt £26k 18/10/140 -
The Grosvenor Hilton is lovely, but last time we went we stayed at the Travelodge on Rose Street, which was just fab for the price. The Barcelo Carlton wasn't too nice, although the penthouse suite, which we got for a night after complaining, was wonderful.******** Never be a spectator of unfairness or stupidity *******"Always be calm and polite, and have the materials to make a bomb"0

If you're looking for somewhere just to put your head for the night, then Travelodge is worthwhile (there are 10+ of them in and around Edinburgh). Another option is the Innkeepers Lodge in Corstorphine, you get a Continental breakfast and it's on a main bus route to and from the airport.
As far as places to see - well, there's plenty in Edinburgh! The bus tours from Waverley Bridge are a good way of seeing the city if you're short on time. Plus the ticket is valid for a day, so you can always hop on and off at places of interest. With it being a double decker, it's a good way of seeing the city architecture too. You've got the Old Town and the New Town and the architecture is quite different in both.
The National Museum on Chambers Street is free entry, as are the Art Galleries (unless there are specific exhibitions on which charge entry), but there's the National Gallery, the Modern Art Gallery and the Portrait Gallery

Depending on the time that you've got, you could take the train through to Stirling from Edinburgh, as it's a nice city too. Also has a castle that's worth visiting. Both Edinburgh and Stirling Castles are run by Historic Scotland. You can get a 3 day explorer pass for £20, which might be worth getting if you can visit more than one place. (Edinburgh Castle costs £14+ to enter and Stirling Castle is £13)

Other places that are worth going to are The Botanic Gardens, Holyrood House, The Scottish Parliament, walking down (or up) the Royal Mile, Mary King's Close.
Hope this helps!0
