Edinburgh

Well then, my sister and I are thinking of visiting Edinburgh over Easter. She'd be flying over from abroad, and I from London and we'd meet at the airport. Then off to this Scottish city I've heard it's so beautiful.

However, we don't need a 5 star hotel. So, any of you out there can suggest a good place to stay, not very expensive, and how best to spend a couple of days over there? We'd like to go out of the city too, and see a wee bit of the Scotland around it.

Any suggestions, advice and tips gratefully accepted. :A

I went to Edinburgh once with my sister. We saw a small group of people standing outside a hotel, and they said that Bob Geldof was staying there. so we joined them.

Several hours later it was now a large group of people, including someone from the Daily Mail.

Unfortunately I don't remember which hotel it was so can't answer your question.

I can't help you with Edinburgh Q but if you need a tour guide/chauffeur for the other bits of Scotland you might want to see just give me a shout.

I know this is a bit of a random sidetrack but did he ever appear?

What sort of thing would you be looking for outside of Edinburgh? South Queensferry is a lovely place to visit on a nice day, you can take a boat tour on the Forth and see the Forth bridges up close. There's also some gift shops and eateries there too and various tour buses stop by there.

As for your hotel, are you looking for something central or a little bit out of town with good transport links? In central Edinburgh itself I've never booked into a hotel but the price of food etc is inflated due to it being a city centre with lots of tourists so I can imagine the hotels in the capital will be commanding a similar inflated price in comparison to those a little out of the way.

That's all I can think of for now, I'm sure other people can come up with better ideas though!

Thanks for the advice. At the moment I'm just looking at options. :)

Yeah, sorry about that! I remembered it as June / July for some reason and when I went back to my post I realised I was totally off! Haha.

I'm sure several MSE'rs will vouch for it. :rotfl:

Thanks but it's Edinburgh. My sister is an art academic with a penchant for architecture, and Edinburgh is what she would like to see. :)
