Interesting ideas for reducing spam here: http://www.!!!!!!.uk/spam.htm
  • We're getting loads of these type of emails through my work email address and so far the work IT people haven't been able to put a full stop to them. one problem is that the text of the email is actually in a picture as an attachment, so it can't search for certain words in it and reject them on that basis.
Sorry this isn't very helpful but at least you know you aren't alone! hOpe your spam filter is better than ours.

The body of the text isn't always the best way to block emails, the subject line of the emails is the main area as there can't be any images in there, so your works IT bods need to look at the subject line. At my place they use blackice defender, they gave us 4 weeks to register all our email addresses we use/need and then they switch it on! NO spam at all

  • I can recommend VQME by Vanquish

It costs around $20 for a year and is basically an e-mail account that learns how you want to deal with spam. You set up a forward from your own e-mail address (eg I do this from BT Openworld) and therefore still use my BT address.

You set up access lists (import your address book) and then every other e-mail you get will be sent a challenge response (obvious spammers do not get sent the challenge) to prove they are a live account. The once the sender proves this it will be released to you mailbox and they will be on your confirmed list.

You can also check the held mail if you want and release it manually. They recommend you do this for the 1st couple of weeks while the system is learning your habits and after that you don't need to bother. It learns the sort of message you are releasing so can add rules to let them through.

Its just stopped spam dead to my mailbox, and there was so much previously.

They also have a webmail client so you can still read your mail whatever PC you are on.

Just bear in mind that if you order anything on-line, the shopping cart will almost always send an automatic order acknowledgement that can look like spam. If your email system bounces back a "challenge" the shopping cart it will not be able to respond and your order will either go on hold or be cancelled.
  • Thanks for to you all for the advice....thought I saw on the news tonight that Viagra will be on sale to the public in Boots soon !! So perhaps that will do the trick:rotfl:
