Does frontline (cat) still work?

Recently I purchased Frontline for my cats from an amazon seller. We had had a cat years ago and frontline had worked well on him so I naturally bought the same thing again.
My 3 cats had fleas before I applied the frontline and they had fleas after the treatment too, whether fewer of them I couldn't say but it definitely didn't get rid of them. I then bought advocate (prescription) and that cleared up the fleas pretty much immediately. Both treatments are applied in the same way so it can't be human error on my part. I'm wondering whether I could have bought a duff batch of Frontline, or if in fact fleas have now developed an immunity to the stuff to produce a new superior super flea. Has anyone else had experience, good or bad with Frontline?

Didn't treat the environment, but as frontline works by effectively making the cat's blood toxic to fleas I shouldn't have found fleas on the cats so soon after giving the treatment. Perhaps there's a regional element to this? Just that TallGirl who had the same experience with Frontline lives in the next county along from me... I'm West Sussex.0

I don't want to cast aspersions on the Amazon seller but I only ever buy Frontline from a reputable company who are also able to fill prescriptions.
Are you absolutely certain it was Frontline and not fake?

Well, no I'm not sure it wasn't a fake. That's sort of why I emphasised where I bought it. The product looked perfectly legitimate but I'm not sure I'd have recognised a fake anyway. I left a seller review on amazon saying the item had not worked but my review was never published. From that I assumed that I had inadvertently broken some rule on reviewing sellers- in that my review cast doubt on the seller by reviewing the product rather than the seller... not really sure.0

my vet agree'd last week in lilly's pre op assessment that frontline has become less effective over the years, they have stopped selling it due to high number of complaints of it not working as it claims to. they have switched suppliers now, and use two main flea treatments, advatage and advocate, i use advantage i must say i saw an immediate effect, seeing 2 large fleas drop out dead on application area its absorbed into the skin rather than blood so kills small ones that just cant make the bloodstream in its first days.
cheaper than front line, and a large promotional pack available with 6 ampules, (six month supply with a single cat).0 -
Frontline worked on my cats with no problems. I use MedicAnimal and they also sell Advantage without prescription (as do the other on-line sellers frequently mentioned on here).0

In the family we have (had) 3 cats, 2 older, 1 kitten. We de-flea them regularly, cept the usage drops during winter. I had two cats in my place, mum had kitten in hers. Basically because we flit between the two places when we do one set, we do the other at the same time. The last 2 applications of Frontline has not worked at all for us on all of the cats. We ended up trying advantage which did work. 1 cat is now a pure indoor, so doesn't have fleas/doesn't get de-fleaed, the other older cat died, and the kitten is now on full adult stuff. We tried frontline again and it did nothing, so we're calling it a dead loss (pun!), and will use Advantage now. Frontline were bought from vet, as well as online over the applications, so they all couldn't have been fake.
My brother had problems with front line not working as well.0
