Do I need an outdoor aerial?

Hello

I don't have an outdoor aerial. I have a digital tv for which I use an indoor aerial which gives great reception.

I have another tv which is 16 years old, I use a cheapy indoor aerial and the reception is pretty dodgy.

with the changeover to digital, do I need to purchase an outdoor aerial? Its been suggested that I need to.

I plan on changing the old tv to one with freeview, so could I get another digital indoor aerial?

Also would signing up to virgin media help with me not needing an aerial? I don't have sky etc channels so if this would solve the whole outdoor indoor aerial situation, I might go down this route.

thanks for any advice

It's impossible to say until the switchover happens. Why not try your new TV with an internal one first?
But I'm bemused as to why you would see subscribing to VM as the solution to a lack of an external aerial? 3 or 4months VM subs would be more than the one-off cost of an aerial (around £100). You would thereafetr be paying a monthly sub forever or a service that you don't actually want.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)

Perhaps? It really is impossible to tell - all you can do is try and if you don't recieve anything, you'll know the answer. If I were to invest in an outdoor aerial, I'd certainly feed all my TV's from it as makes it more cost-effective.

    Thanks
its only because I got a leaflet through and read it today saying packages from £6.50 , I'd like channels sky one etc but just the very basic as an added bonus to the freeview so if I could get a cheapy package that would be a bonus

The cheapest VM sub is around £20 per month, that £6.50 offer is an 18m contract and requires you to take a VM phone line at £13.90 a month as well.
    Try reading the small print.
A Sky sub also starts at around £20.

Well, if you thought that you thought you could get subscription TV for £6.50pm, then I would suggest that the small print is the very first thing you should look at...
You'll be paying a minimum £20pm for 18m, total £360, when all you (possibly) need is an external aerial at a one-off cost of around £100.
if you want VM subscription TV, fine, but don't get it just because it avoids putting up an aerial.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)
