Hi shakeitright
Thanks for the idea, can you remember where you went to make the change you suggested, I cannot seem to find it in the router settings.
Thanks

Hi
Thanks for the reply but there does not appear to be any option to do as you suggest in the router screen.
Looks like I'm back to spending the day with Google.
Thanks anyway for the suggestion.

Go into wireless setting. Go to channel and change number then click Apply. Switch off router then on again so channel change takes effect. Make a note of what the channel is set to before you begin0

I think the OP may be trying to change the 802.11 interface type not the channel? If my post hasn't helped you, then don't click the 'Thanks' button!

Still not connected but I have it does connect fine without a password on the router, I am not leaving it without a password.
The computer now sees the main computer but still on has Local Access and no internet.
I thought all the computers were Windows 7, turns out this one is Vista, so the problem must be with Vista and passwords for the router, all other computers are Windows 7.
There is plenty to read, tried many of the suggestions but no joy as yet, but I will keep trying.

Try, Start, Control panel, Network and internet, Network and sharing centre, click on "Manage Wireless Networks". This should display all the networks you have connected to. Find your Netgear, right click then Properties, on the second tab marked "Security", select Auth: WPA Encryption: TKIP, type in your WPA key (or WPA2) and then hit "OK". Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0 -
Hi
Thanks for replying.
I have tried the TKIP setting and it just disconnects the connection all together.
Yesterday it would not connect at all, now I have the connection just with limited local connection only.
However, if I change to AES I get the above.
All the other computers are set with AES, I was not sure which I should use but as AES seemed to work, I let it at that.
Unless AES causes problems with Vista, which I have not looked in to.

All of your machines should definitely support TKIP but the Vista machines wireless card driver may need updating to support AES. Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0 -
Hi
I tried to change to TKIP and now get the following error " wireless authentication failed because of a time out."
At least it's a new error to work on.
