problem with cancelling virgin braodband and phone

On the 29/11 last year we cancelled our broadband and phone line with virgin and gave them 1 months notice ,as we were having terrible experience with them such as no internet days on end lines crossed over from someone elses property for up to 2 weeks and then no phone working .So we changed provider to talk talk and touch wood been really good.Today we received a bill from virgin for £20 ,so i phoned and asked why the bill they said we had never cancelled but i have an email from them saying it had cancelled on the 29/11 but they said no you have to give us the £20 and the remainder of the contract .But i have never signed a contract with them it was always month by month .can they do this they are playing ignorant

Virgin do not do month by month - they do contracts, when the contract period runs out you continue on the same deal and have to provide 30 days notice on the disconnection.

How long had you been with Virgin when you disconnected?

We had been with virgin for about 3 years and moved house in between that time but always kept with them up untill last november

you were out of the minimum contract term, but still bound by the remainder of the contract terms otherwise - therefore you would have had a 30 day cancellation period...you would have been liable for the final bill if it was for the period of the cancellation.
