Because I am on it, I've never had any emails about it, however the email you have posted is very ambiguous, and basically does sound like if you pay us the extra £5, then you will get a better service than your neighbour (who for examples sake doesn't pay the extra fiver). But when you sit and work it out, it doesn't actually work that way (unless he is your clone and does exactly what you do, but doesn't pay for it, whilst you do)

As I say, it's one of the main reasons that I went with plusnet. Their service is good, as are their tools online (monitoring exactly what takes up what on internet use), along with reasonable line rental (and I've just done their offer of 12 months line rental @ 9.49 a month) and call package charges. I have known for a long time with what I download (primarily TV shows from UK/USA) it has been throttled on all of my previous ISP's, so the fact I could actually pay to get that lifted somewhat, suited me.

Really we're all being held hostage by ISP's. Whether it's their promises of greatly reduced 3 or 4 month prices (based on some long term contracts) whereby you find so many subscribe that your service is poor when you want to do things outside general browsing etc, or simply charges for services we don't necessarily need/want. We need a change on Internet, and being truly unlimited as that will be the way forward people want to go (TV on demand, internet TV etc, iplayer.)

Well I can agree with you on one thing....the service is good and I particularly like the Plusnet Assist Package where all the help and information is just as you say.

Right now, apart from my line speed dropping for around 3 weeks I have no complaints.

    I use Netflix £5.99 / Spotify Premium at £10 a month....so I'm not a skinflint!...and have even abbled with Love Film

My at the moment over 6 internet speed seems to satisfy my streaming/download needs just so long as this does not deteriorate so as to try and push one for the extra fiver!

You can of course detect the cynic in me!:D

Your line speed dropping will have nothing to do with anything Plusnet control. That will be due to local interference or a fault on your line (which is maintained by BT Openreach). Local interference, especially after dark, can be caused by old standard internal extension wiring, including bell wire issues, also long overhead external lines. If you have a dropping internet connection you may also find you have occasional noise on your phone line and you would need to report a phone line problem to your line rental provider, BUT beware, do so when the noise is there and it can be confirmed as audible by the Agent you speak to, and make sure it's logged as Intermittent and insist that Openreach are informed it's Intermittent (and don't mention the broadband because you may get given the run around). Otherwise when Openreach investigate if they can't hear/find noise you will get a large bill for a No Fault Found! That will also apply if they find the fault is in your own internal wiring! Those comments apply to ANY Line Rental provider, not just Plusnet.
Plusnet and AAISP are probably 2 of the best at dealing with such issues (providing you report things in the right way, although you'll pay more with AAISP for their services.)

Boozecruiser, like me you appear to be on a Market 1 exchange and will therefore pay more for your broadband whoever you go to. After your initial rant, you seem to have explained the fact that you are in fact getting a good deal and there is nothing wrong with the service.
Unless you are on the Pro package, certain types of traffic will be throttled at peak times (eg.P2P, download servers, FTP, Usenet etc.) whereas Streaming (eg. iPlayer etc, but not Youtube), Surfing, Gaming etc are never throttled UNLIKE some other Providers where EVERYTHING just slows down at peak times!!! So it's a case of what you want to use your broadband for (and how much you use it at what times), you pays your money and takes your choice!

Many thanks for all of the above useful info M8 I will keep that in mind.

I think you are right about the market exchange info. I was with Talk Talk for many years who kept promising me that Internet would be free once they took over the line.

    Promises promises promises:mad:

After 5 yeas imminent I shoved off to Plusnet!

Have to dash off out now but thanks again.:T

    Hi boozercruiser,

I'm not sure if there would be anything we can do given that you're on a market 1 exchange but I'd be happy to take a look at your account for you and advise, if you could post a ticket ID or something so I can find it?

  • I'm with Plusnet and I love it! finally a company that won't harass me for downloading as much as I want (as long as I do it from 12am to a 8am) it's fantastic!!! I download as much as 200gb some months:eek:

Now I've had some problems with them overcharging me a few times by £6.50 for 2 months when I moved from a Market 1 Exchange area to a market 3 exchange area but this was solved very quickly with a 5 minute telephone call and I was also charged a £1.50 debit card fee which I didn't notice which was swiftly refunded

so all in all it really is "Good Honest Broadband From Yorkshire":T

    Highly recommended :)
