Do you give to beggars?

When I visit the Philippines I am approached numerous times a day by children begging on the streets; they follow me around but they genuinely are in need of help, so I do give them a few Pesos or, if I am near a food outlet, I will take them in and buy food for them.
The look on their faces is sufficient reward for me and I can have quite interesting discussions with children as young as five.0 -
i will always give to beggars if i have some spare change on me, coming home from the hospital a few weeks back a young girl asked me if i had any spare change, i gave her some, and the next day she spotted me in town again and asked me if she could have some more! i said no that time because although i will try to help people if i can i felt she was being a bit rude,by deliberately making a beeline for me,
but usually, i will give to people with or without a sad scruffy looking dog beside them,0 -

What I meant was I know you won't give a stuff about my opinion, and what I say will make no difference as you, cos you know your own mind and your point of view on this issue is worlds away from mine. I don't know what you feel or think on most things but because we have been discussing it on this thread for the past day I reckon it is reasonable to say I do know what you think about homeless people and beggars. No?0 -
are you having a bad day 'makemewise'? your posts on this thread are so unlike you! I know you to be a nice compassionate poster usually - yet you are sounding very grumpy and taking people to task for no reason!0

No its not reasonable to say that because you have misread most of my posts and taken what I have said out of context.
No meritaten I am not having a bad day. I just wont sit back and have someone tell me I see things a certain way when they cant be bothered to read what I have written properly.0 -
I would never give to a beggar purely because I am selfish and try and save every little penny myself so that me and my family have enough - we are expecting our first child and we are saving so hard for our first home.
However, saying that, anything I have that I want to get rid of, I would never dream of chucking it in the bin, I would always give it to charity first! Depending which charity bag comes round first, that's who gets it. If it's a homeless charity, then great.
Also, I would much rather give someone something food wise than money wise.0 -
I would give the money to a homeless charity as a donation. They will ensure that its spent properly. If you give to beggars 99.9% will spend the money on alcohol/heroin/crack cocaine. The majority of users/ ex users will not give to beggars for this reason.0
