Help to return a iphone to three mobile using 14 day cooling off period

Options
I took out a contract with three mobile via their website, the handset arrived on christmas eve and had a note with it saying I mustn't turn it on if I want to return it during the 14 day cooling off period.
I wanted to check that I could get reception where I live so I phoned three who said I could only get reception if I went outside.
So it's no good.

I phoned up on the 27th, when they were next open to say I wanted to return the phone as I can't get reception in my apartment. The number on the note about returns told me to redial to another number. They connected me to someone in England who promised they would send a returns jiffy bag within 2 working days.
Nothing arrived, so leaving it a good while to make sure it wasn't delayed with new year bank hols I rang again on the 9th to be told that I can't return and cancel the contract until I send them 3 months worth of bank statements. I refused as I don't want to contract so they have no need to see my bank statements.
They told me they would send a jiffy bag after been passed all over india. Again they said 2 days delivery.

I have still received nothing. I've tried again today, and got put through to someone in England who say I've never requested to cancel and now it's too late. I'm not having that and told them so. They eventually said they would send me a jiffy bag!

I'm getting very hacked off.....why wont they just give me a returns address? Does anyone have any advice? I've rung my local three store to be told they can't do anything, they have no returns address, and they don't even have any contact numbers for head office!

Why on earth I thought I would give three a chance is beyond me!

You can return just to their official address

    Three
    Star House
    20 Grenfell Road
    Maidenhead
    SL6 1EH

However, returning doesn't solve the problem. You have to make sure that the contract is cancelled. And the only way to do this is by complaining. Either follow their Customer complaints code or complain to executive.office@three.co.uk

That said, I feel sorry for them as there are far more simple ways to check the reception where you live than ordering a contract phone.

how did they know you would only get reception outside?

anyway ask them for a log of your calls to prove you rang within the 14 day period and if not you'll be taking it further

somethings a miss, cant see 3 saying you cant get signal in your place for a start how would they know
Don't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.

I don't have a phone thats not locked to o2, as I've always been a o2 customer and none of my friends have a three phone so I can't test in another phone.

Thanks for the info Grumbler. My husband used to have a three contract, when we moved here a few years back he couldn't get any reception.
We've since had numerous sales calls telling us the reception is perfect now but I've always been in a contract and haven't wanted to change.
Eventually I decided to take out a contract with them, believing them. Then when it arrived the paperwork said I was not to turn it on. I then phoned saying I need to check reception as I'm a bit wary but I've been told on numerous occasions that the reception is fine now.

They took my postcode and told me I only get outdoor coverage and gave me their website link which tells me the coverage info and they are right, I can't use it if I'm inside.

Yes I should have just gone with my gut instincts and believe the contract was too good to be true and they can't have changed that much, but hindsight is a wonderful thing.

    Thanks for all your help.

If you were in a good service area, the contract isn't too good to be true - you're just in the 'wrong' place. FWIW, I have no t-mobile OR Orange coverage, with noth needing me to stand on a ladder or be outside, so it is swings and roundabouts. As for having a contract phone - nope, it is never a good idea.
