Be careful with Ulysee mobile, I purchased the UNLIMITED 15 day package because their website goes on and on about how they recommend you use it as much as possible, its totally unlimited afterall... As usual it was a lie !

I spent a week in new york and all was good, mainly because out there the signal is terrible and i only saw 3G once or twice, EDGE was the best i could get 99.9% of the time. I went on to Las Vegas the following week and the signal was fantastic, H+ and 6-8mb all the time. I decided to set all my photos to upload automatically to dropbox, i was on an unlimited service so i didn't need to worry.
After 3 days i received a text from the company i was connected to saying that i had broken the T&Cs and would be disconnected soon. I emailed Ulysse who said i wouldn't be disconnected but i needed to stop using so much data as it's NOT actually totally unlimited. The following day i was disconnected

I got in touch with Ulysee when i got home and this is what they said.

The SIM card is unlimited, but only for regular use.

The service will not be disconnected. Just make sure not to exaggerate on your internet usage.

According to our Terms and Conditions "The unlimited talk, text and web products are strictly available to Ulysse Mobile's clients that travel for leisure and/or business. The use of these mobile accounts must not be abusive and must be consistent with the needs of a traveller."

I wasn't doing anything other than uploading photos, browsing, and using google maps, no tv streaming or downloading of any sort.

I don't see how uploading photos can be classed as abnormal usage and not consistent with the needs of a traveller.
  • Hello Beasty,
I work at Ulysse Mobile and am sorry to hear you got cut off while using our sim card. I was really surprised to see your post here as our offer is truly unlimited, unless the use is a too abusive, as indicated in our terms of use. Uploading pictures is in fact not an abusive activity and it has never been. Maybe you uploaded too many pictures and very heavy ones? Also, in an effort to really understand why this happened, we have searched in our emails and we found the attached one, where you say you were streaming a movie as well.
I think it is important to stress that our unlimited Web Talk and Text offer is for smartphones and if you are uploading heavy pictures to your dropbox and streaming entire movies, this might be detected as abusive from our provider. As all mobile providers world wide probably would. However, you can upload as many pictures you wish on social networks as they make sure the photos you upload are not too heavy. Also use your gps, watch short videos, video conference use Skype etc... normal smartphone 3G use but unfortunately not watch entire movies.

    Thanks for the reply
No the sim hasn't been used as a hotspot, and it has only been used for what I'd consider normal usage. Streaming a movie in my hotel at night is surely normal usage but will obviously use a lot of data.

    Thanks for the reply.

At the point of ordering i searched your website to find some sort of fair use policy or anything that contradicted your claims of truly unlimited use, i found nothing that said i couldn't stream videos or upload big photos.

Smart phones these days are BIG and have excellent cameras capable of taking some big hi res images, so large photos and streaming a tv episode or movie via netflix is quite common and i wouldn't consider either to be classed as abnormal use, especially when the service provided is for people travelling. I certainly wasn't expecting to be disconnected from a service provided by a company (or through a partner in this case)that really pushes the "unlimited use" and who suggest going all out and taking advantage of the "truly unlimited plan"

What really frustrates me are the following comments from your reply.

our offer is truly unlimited, unless the use is a too abusive.

Uploading pictures is in fact not an abusive activity and it has never been. Maybe you uploaded too many pictures and very heavy ones?

How can something but TRULY unlimited if i can be disconnected for using too much? I also like the fact that uploading photos is not abusive... unless you upload too many ???

If your going to offer TRULY UNLIMITED data to people travelling, uploading photos to dropbox and streaming the odd tv show / movie should NEVER be classed as odd or abnormal usage.

I'll be travelling to Vegas again in 3 months, unfortunately i wont be choosing Ulysee again.

Unlimited browsing I bet same as T-Mobile UK, not streaming browsing.

T-Mobile US prepaid used to have a unlimited internet
