Comet - Failed Click and Collect Reservation

Options
Hi,

I had an ink cartridge reserved at Comet. The reservation states that they'll hold the item until closing time yesterday. When we got to the store yesterday I provided the reservation number but they told us they could not find the item. (So it must have been sold even though I had it reserved).

Just wondering what compensation if any I'm entitled to because it was a waste of a trip to Comet and their reservation failed.. (Such as compensation to cover petrol).

Thanks.

I totally agree with you, I know it doesn't really answer your question but I just had a similar issue with Next today. I went in to collect an order, and someone had given it to another customer and they had even signed for my item last night. When they realised the signature was totally different they said all they could do was re-order. I kicked up a big fuss in the store with the manager, who then offered me a free re-order to home/store and a £10 gift voucher.

I was satisfied with the free £10 gift voucher as I know i will use it :)

  • Entitled to is probably a bit strong - from a strict legal sense probably the cost of your fuel and nothing else but enforcing it would not be worth the time and effort.

However, have a word / send a letter to the manager. I would surprised if you wouldn't get a tenner in vouchers for your trouble.

Hey, thought I'd give an update on the issue. Sent a letter to Comet, they replied yesterday. They apologised about the item not being in stock.

I also forgot to mention here that Comet did not phone me to confirm where to go when I arrive in store. However, they've insisted that they did phone me and for that reason alone they are not going to give me compensation.

I'm pretty annoyed at this because a) they definitely never phoned as there was no missed calls or voicemail left on my mobile. and b) them saying they did phone is a irrelevant reason to not give me compensation as the reservation was not met!

I want to continue persuing this as a matter of principle rather than for the compensation itself and I'm wondering what should I do next? Should I ask them to send the date and time they did try to phone and see if my mobile operator can confirm the call occured?

    Kind Regards

Have you considered maybe you typed your phone number in wrong?

(this happens more than often than you might think)

  • Comet will be a thing of the past soon anyway, and good riddence. Their customer service is appalling. I would certainly never shop in one of their stores, regardless of whether they were cheaper or not.

  • the comet "reservation" system is a shambles.

    background (not necessary to read):
a few days before christmas my son announced he so desperately wanted a certain item. as he hadnt mentioned wanting anything in particular previously - i wanted him to have this.

a comet store apx 25 miles away had 1 left. i happily reserved it and set off on my travels. when i got there i couldnt believe what i witnessed.
the "reserved" items are just left underneath random tills. the assistants have to go searching under each til for each item.
i was in there no less than 30 minutes as they couldnt find my product.
i was ready to let all hell let loose so was just thankful to get away when they eventually located it on the floor at the back of the store!

NEVER AGAIN !! no wonder they going down the pan

It certainly does look that way, although some heavy investment was put in place as part of the buyout so only time will tell whether they really will pull their fingers out.

Personally I don't want to see them going under, the number of jobs gone and creditors that will loose out will be extreme!
