    I really appreciate everyone's help and advice with regard to this matter. Thank you too for the link DavidHM, very informative.

    I am more understanding of the situation and the process involved now. I will have a chat with the lad over the weekend to see if he understands the ins and outs and what may or may not happen.

    He had a bad couple of years where he went off the rails a bit (nothing bad, just aimless teenager) but he got himself sorted out, quietened down and started an apprenticeship in January. Where he lives there is no public transport that will get him to work so this situation could potentially have a huge knock on effect if it goes to court and he loses his licence for example.

    It's so frustrating dealing with 'invincible' teenagers sometimes. It's a shame you can't download common sense into them through an easy USB connection! :rolleyes:
