  • What ATA is best to buy which works with various VOIP companies including Vonage? I heard saw it mentioned on one of these threads but didn't make a note.

Apparantley its available from Ebay and also supports Vonage's service.

    Hi.

As part of the sign-up deal, are you automatically provided with one incoming phone number or do you have to purchase this seperately?

I've had a look through the site but I couldn't find a clear answer.

I would recommend a Linksys PAP2T ATA, it will work with any VOIP providers. You can connect to two different providers - should cost no more than £40.
  • Double Post - sorry.

with vonage u will get a free number u just have to select city. if u r not happy with number pay them another few quid and get it changer. i am with vonage for over 3 mnths now and i m happy occassionally it gets hang but u need to restart the adapter.
highly recommended if u use much local call / us etc and wanna save money.
did i mentioned they have 30 days trial and if u dont like they will return ur money back including packaging,
    good luck
  • I'm not sure if I am being thick here but I am with TalkTalk and have been for a year (yes I got the dreadful customer service too but stayed with them as eventually they sorted themselves out - ie couldnt find anything else to mess up)

I recently swapped plans so I get line rental, 8mb broadband, and all 01 and 02 calls, most international calls inc USA and Aus free! all for £20ish a month!:T

I have skype, tried a couple of other VOIP things but to be honest I never use them because Talk talk does it inclusively free and if its a couple of pence for some calls its almost not wrth the electricity of booting up the PC!

Am I missing something? why do people who obviously need at least £10 worth of line rental, some form of broadband (must be more than £10) then pay £7.99 for something like Vonage??

Some people like myself don't need line rental, they get there broadband via cable. Thus means you can save £11 per month for the line rental. With proper VoIP you get all free services, caller display, call waiting, 3-way calling, call divert, anonymous caller reject and a few other services.

I don't use Vonage, but use VoIPStunt, I have an incoming number with these (new customers have to get a number elsewhere and point it at the service) with this group of companies I've had over 15 months of free calling to the UK and many other countries for six Euro in total, and because I used my free credit from my old easyMobile phone to top my service up I have another 12 months of free calling, plus a fair amount of credit for the non-free destinations.

So not only have I saved the £11 per month on line rental, I have saved the monthly cost on the various services and saved the cost of most of my phone calls.

You can say I get my phone service for free.

I just pay for my broadband and I get digital TV free, as I got what was then Telewest to extend my deal again.
It's PAC not PAC Code, it's MAC not MAC Code, it's PIN not PIN Number, it's ATM not ATM Machine, it's LCD not LCD Display, it's DVD not DVD disc... It's no one not noone, It's a lot not alot, It's got not gotten... Panini is the plural of panino - there is no S!!
