  • I've also heard about the 'non-advertised' shipping, activation and change your plan charges which I think are quite expensive.

Never mind the hidden cost..l what about the cost you can see? Have a look at voip.co.uk or sipgate instead.. far better deals.. I am personally using voip.co.uk and can recommend them 100%.. I've dropped my landline and are now using VoIP only.

I dont think the charges are hidden - its mentioned on some of the notes at the bottom of the pages and they come up on checkout BEFORE you complete the order but could be clearer...i agree

i had quick look thru the other offerings and found them all a bit complex differents boxes,,, different providers etc etc and took up too much time - something that wouldnt appeal to the masses

I started with the off the shelf Freetalk box which does appeal to the masses and then Vonage took over...so didnt have all the activations fee's etc.

I will have to take the time to investigate the other options.

I want an adapter that plugs into my cable broadband (so computer can be off) , own phone number (this will be my only home phone), and lots of features and good online account management. anything u (or anyone) can recommend?

    thanks

I've not used Vonage as I don't use the phone enough to make the monthly fee worth paying.

If you don't use the phone much then you may want to buy an ATA yourself and use one of the many providers out there, many have no monthly fee and you just pay for the calls you make, there's one that you can pay £20 for the year and get evening and weekend calls free up to 60 mins per call and then 1p/min after 60 mins, and the daytime calls are 2p for 60 mins and 1p/min afterwards.

With Vonage you have to pay the monthly fee each and every month, even if you are not making anywhere near enough calls to make it value for money.
It's PAC not PAC Code, it's MAC not MAC Code, it's PIN not PIN Number, it's ATM not ATM Machine, it's LCD not LCD Display, it's DVD not DVD disc... It's no one not noone, It's a lot not alot, It's got not gotten... Panini is the plural of panino - there is no S!!

    hidden fee's?

    http://www.vonage.co.uk/services_premium.php

and also fully listed on the confirmation page BEFORE you complete.

looking more and more at the other voip's and so far not convinced. pretty confusing for your average Joe Public, fee's for UK calls, top up's/ credit required etc etc

my mind is open tho,,,and will keep reading up
