This type of post is childish and insensitive and does nothing for your credibility.

I too have PV, but please....don't tempt fate, if the FITs are removed from existing contracts in the future, you'll be the first to moan.

childish, perhaps. but you reap what you sow

Regarding 'downsizing', considering that Sharp are one of the largest panel manufacturers having three panel manufacturing plants on a global basis with the majority of production from Wrexham going to export (mainly Europe) then the current UK situation regarding FiTs and UK subsidy levels is not the likely cause ....

    Well, according to wrexham.com ..

Concerns have been raised about the future of Sharp’s manufacturing plant in Llay after the company told the government it was reviewing its presence in the UK.
Their decision has come about as a result of the government’s decision to bring forward plans to halve the Feed-In Tariff for solar energy schemes from March to December.

nice cherry picking with your salient points lol

    let me add.....

However, Andrew Lee, Head of International Sales at Sharp Solar has denied media reports that the company is planning to shut the Wrexham factory

"However there are no plans to shut our manufacturing plant in Wrexham. There have been workforce fluctuations at our plant in response to variable demand within the European market."

Oddball Quote: "Why don't you knock it off with them negative waves? Why don't you dig how beautiful it is out here? Why don't you say something righteous and hopeful for a change?"

So in the last 3 years, panel prices have halved. Since last summer, UK install costs have dropped over 30%. Like all goods, production goes up and prices come down, so much so that UK PV FITs got left behind in the dust and is still struggling to play catch up. "it's hardly rocket science".

Why for over 3 months have you sat there like King Canute, offering only criticisms, nothing positive, and no alternatives. If only by the law of averages, at some point you'll look down to see how wet your socks are. Stay there much longer and you're at risk of looking liking you wet yourself!

Love it or hate it, the UK (like the rest of the world) is investing in as diverse a range of energy supply / energy solutions as possible. Jump on board before the ship sails - things'll get a lot harder when the water rises past your nose.

    All the best.

Mart. Cardiff. 8.72 kWp PV systems (2.12 SSW 4.6 ESE & 2.0 WNW). 20kWh battery storage. Two A2A units for cleaner heating. Two BEV's for cleaner driving.

For general PV advice please see the PV FAQ thread on the Green & Ethical Board.

Having not been on this section of the board for a while its sad to see people like graham2003 being so negative and not offering any credible solutions.

Mart - some super cool posts, I've learnt a few things so thanks!

I'm not going to get involved in the arguements, but I do know this much:

Our winter electricity use is down by 18%
Our summer electricity use is down by 40%

This is with no other changes to appliances or the way we use things. Surely that can only be a good thing?

I would like to leave something in the world for my (all of our children) to inherit. Whats so bad about making an investment now for the long term future?

I get the impression that the debate is over, solar panels do work and do reduce our use of fossil fuels. All that is left is arguements and some smoke and mirrors tactics from those who seem to have a real grudge against solar panels.

They probably have to pay back a chunk of the subsidy if they close down too soon.
Why move to the middle of Wales, when you can move to the middle of Europe [and the finance department to a tax haven].
Forget the pathetic little local squabbles - the local politicians in an off shore island UK have run out out money, trying to buy votes.
Big business now calls the tune - having a job at head office offers a bit of protection but not much.
Remember all those electronic assembly jobs in S.Wales - RIP

There has never been any argument about solar panels working or not; and their outputs are not disputed.

Similarly there is no criticism of house owners fitting solar systems.

The debate is about their effectiveness and the wisdom of paying huge subsidies, paid for by all electricity customers, to a tiny proportion of house owners and venture capitalists owning Rent a roof companies.

I don't see a debate. I see 2 sad people, that for whatever reason, cant havent got solar PV, and just continually whine and !!!!! about them on here....

like i said before, stop crying, move on....
  • I see loads of posters who are jolly good at spending other people's money for them.

That is why half the money of this country is being spent via the taxation system (or worse being printed).

Victorian double entry book keeping built this country - not a bunch of politicians passing edicts.

So let us try to discuss the discounted cash flow benefits of feed in tariff - very difficult to do as the unit of measurement is nolonger a store of value.
