    Yes -uninstall and reinstall.

I didn't "register" my avast, just selected the free option.

Each time it updates, if you click on "see detail" it offers you the chance to upgrade but there is always the continue "free" option.

Posting incorrect advice is not helpful.

Read page 9 of the Avast Installation guide here about the need to register within 30 days.

the complicating factor may be that they have been plugging the full suite free for 20 days during the registration process, so OP may have inadvertently installed the wrong version :(

I have a dodgy "i" key, so ignore spelling errors due to "i" issues, ...I blame Apple :D

Not incorrect when I loaded it.

Been running sweet as a nut since Closed recommended it over 6 months ago.:D

    It was actually.

The instructions for Avast 4.8 from 2008 stated:
How to register for a License Key

Within 60 days, avast! Home Edition users will need to register and insert a valid license key into the program.
The only difference was that you had 60 days to register back then!

As I said previously, posting incorrect advice is not helpful to the OP who needs to register.

I have never entered a registration key.

So I fail to see that I have entered erroneous information based on my experience.

If you do just make sure you uninstall Avast first.

Since version 6 (maybe even 5) then you can register online via the Avast control panel, rather than going to the website, getting a reg key and then entering it into Avast. So maybe that's why you have "never entered a registration key". :)

But you DO need to register.
