I didn't "register" my avast, just selected the free option.
Each time it updates, if you click on "see detail" it offers you the chance to upgrade but there is always the continue "free" option.

Read page 9 of the Avast Installation guide here about the need to register within 30 days. Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0 -
the complicating factor may be that they have been plugging the full suite free for 20 days during the registration process, so OP may have inadvertently installed the wrong version......Gettin' There, Wherever There is......

It was actually.
The instructions for Avast 4.8 from 2008 stated:How to register for a License Key
Within 60 days, avast! Home Edition users will need to register and insert a valid license key into the program.

The instructions for Avast 4.8 from 2008 stated:
The only difference was that you had 60 days to register back then!
As I said previously, posting incorrect advice is not helpful to the OP who needs to register.

But you DO need to register.0
