Good places where to take dog with us on hols?

Options
I thought I would ask for some recommendations... we got our lovely dog for few months now and realise that we have to start thinking differently about going on hols! We used to go away for w/e away with the Travelodge deals but not now....
We went to France over xmas so he has his pet passport etc ....But can you recommend places in the UK? I think some Haven parks take pets any good ones? it has to be a family place, during school hols, and of course we're on a budget....thanks for any help...

You can still take the dog to some Travelodges. Haven do take them, Center Parcs too I think. Most caravan parks will allow dogs in some hire caravans.

Only thing about Haven, they do charge extra for the dog. Hoseasons also allow dogs, again an extra charge though. Why not google "Dogs stay free UK"? you will find plenty of other suggestions.

We book through Welcome Cottages, you can put in the search box that you want to view pet friendly places, we have gone to the Isle of Wight, the Lake District and Peak District with one dog and going back to the Lakes later this year with 2! I don't think they charge for dogs either.

There are usually classified ads at the back of the dog magazines for dog friendly cottages and B&Bs, not very MSE to buy a mag for the ads but it gives you a start!

There are quite a few holiday cottages and caravan sites that allow dogs. Haven sites definitely do as do a lot of the Welcome cottages and Sykes cottages

There is a site called dogfriendly.co.uk that has holiday accommodation that allow dogs - caravans, hotels, B&B's and cottages.

As for areas of this country that are great for dogs I would have to pick Northumberland. Miles of fantastic beaches with dogs allowed on at least a part on almost all of them. The beaches never seem that crowded either, I guess because they are so long! Every pub we went to allowed dogs - a lot of them inside even if eating.

North Wales is also pretty dog friendly. Unfortunately the same cannot be said of Cornwall. Went there last year and loads of the beaches do not allow dogs at all and a lot of pubs and restaurants would not even let us sit outside with the dog. He is quiet and well behaved so it's not like they thought he would be a problem.

It was a shame because we went back to a caravan site we had been to about 25 years ago. It was next to a lovely beach and then dogs were allowed on the whole beach. Now they are only allowed on one section of it which is far enough but in order to get to that section you have to climb up a very steep hill and then clamber over rocks! I struggled but how could an elderly person or anyone with walking difficulties manage? Won't be going back to Cornwall any time soon

While it's a bit of a hassle to take the dogs with you on holiday, it's worth spending some time on the computer to find the right place. I'm happier knowing the dogs are happy!

I was in a Travelodge 2 weeks ago with my mutt so I can confirm they do take pets (extra £10 per booking).

Some parks on hoseasons take dogs.. we've taken ours to Hunters Quay a few times and stayed in a lovely log cabin, with a balcony which the dog can sit out on whenever he fancies. We went trips to beaches, botantic gardens with nature walks, etc close by... Theres nice pubs on the banks of lochs, which let the dog sit with you at tables outside... we also went day trips to Oban and Fort William etc..
We had a great time, had great weather and got some fab pix...
