Connells Estate Agents...

Any good or bad experiences?

Looking at the possibility of instructing them to market our property...

Many thanks..

  • I had a bad experience with them as a FTB last year.

First of all i had to ring back after booking a viewing because the manager of the branch had forgot to contact me to tell me whether the vendors had confirmed my viewing or not.

Then, they refused to put my offer forward on the house until i had met with their in house mortgage advisor and seen what deals they could offer me and also what legal advice and surveys i wanted.

I already had my own mortgage advisor and told them this but it made no difference.

I let the house go in the end and starting looking at others as i wasn't comfortable with the agents knowing my what i could afford to borrow.

I could go on with more stories about friends who have had houses up for sale with Connells and their experiences but i'll let others tell you how good or bad they are.

Pressured into buying their financial products, surveyer and solicitors, in order to buy the dream house.

Got limited compensation, definitly not worth the hassle of using them, and most certainly avoid using them if you can.

Speaking as a buyer, we went into what is now our local branch, to enquire about a property whose details were in their window. We were moving back from overseas and were over for 1 week.

They would not give us anything without us sitting down and filling out their forms. We explained our situation, we had no time to muck about, did not want to be contacted after the week was up, did not have a UK contact number or address, but they wouldn't have it, unless they had all the info they couldn't help. They just kept on repeating the same mantra, needless to say we walked out!

A house I have spotted since was, unfortunately, on with them, but I wanted to view it. It was too expensive for the state of it, but now I am constantly bombarded with marketing/mortgage deals from them even though they have been told more than once to take me off their mailing list.

Pressure selling or what! I wouldn't go with them if they paid me.
  • Also speaking as buyers, they don't do floorplans, we asked why and were told it was because of potential litigation issues.

Speaks volumes. As seller, this would put me right off. I do not want the Agent giving my buyer a hard time. I do not want my Agent making profits off my buyer by selling them any service whatsoever. Because it means that they will start to discriminate between my potential buyers for the sake of their profit and not for the sake of my sale.

Of course they could argue that it will be better for me if they can find a mortgage for the right buyer. Personally, I think that they put the more savvy buyers off, which leaves you with a smaller chance at the quality buyers.

  • Worst set of Estate Agents I have ever come across under my previous profession. One of the reasons I went for a change in career was due to the stresses of dealing with them.

Also, lots of hidden extra's that buyer's don't realise they've signed up for when they take their mortgage and conveyancing services.
  • I would not recommend them to anyone to sell their property. They don't reply to messages left and they lie. I have no confidence in them.
  • I would add that the Estate Agents that my parents have signed up to are on a par if not worse than Connells. Local firm - I decided to see whether they were up to scratch.

3 emails from different email address - no reply.
2 enquiries through right move....no reply
2 phone calls asking for details....no reply
branch visit - property particulars were no where to be found.

Parents are now in the process of changing estate agents.
