My iPhone 3GS is going to be out of contract with orange soon and I was wondering do I still have to pay there high monthly fees or is there any way I can put a new sim into it ie Tesco or O2 or is the phones locked to Orange?

its probably locked to orange and i think they charge you to unlock it-you'll only be out of contract btw by giving them 30 days notice

Of course, you don't have to pay high fees. However, you need to give them 30 days notice to leave and need to have the phone unlocked to use it on other networks. Orange may charge you for unlocking up to £20 apparently: giffgaff.com/unlock/Apple-iPhone-3GS-phone

If you got your iPhone on contract from Orange then it will be locked to them

Don't forget you have to give Orange 30 days notice when the contract comes to the end...The contract don't just end it becomes a rolling 30 days contract

To get the phone Unlocked Orange might do it for free at the end of the contract if not it will be about £20 from them and it takes up to 28 days to unlock because they have to let apple know.

Orange are taking a lot longer than their advertised 30 days to unlock iPhones at the moment. The chances are that you can rectrospectively get the £20 fee waived after they exceed the advertised time for delivery of the service.

Call Orange and ask to switch you to PAYG in 30 days.
Ask them to unlock the phone.
When they unlock it, switch the sim.
If you want to port the old number, get a PAC from Orange an give it to the new network.
