80's Fancy Dress

Options
A good friend of mine has booked her 40th Do and it is to be themed "80's Fancy Dress". My friend loves fancy dress. We work in a School she dresses up at every chance, going to the extreme, and she always looks really good.

SO what can I do for her party that is cheap and really, really good and that will be a surprise for my friend as she won't expect it.

I am not one for going ott but on this occasion want to;)

Any tips/advice etc greatly appreciated.

I am near North Manchester.

Thanks:)

judging by your name 'city girl' you could probably pull this off and it need not cost the earth - just a hunt around ebay and some dodgy shops you probably wouldnt set foot in otherwise!
Have a look on google or youtube for a singer called Cyndi Lauper - very popular in the eighties and well known for her eccentric style of dress!
if you dont fancy that then still look on google or you tube - another eccentric dresser was Kate Bush! probably easier to achieve!

Madonna c1985 / Deperately Seeking Susan is an inexpensive look.

My initial thought would be Madonna in Desperately seeking Susan, very cheap and looks great. Cyndi Lauper,Girls Just Wanna have fun, pink hair dye same outfit?
Films, Baby Dirty Dancing, (walk in with a watermelon) , Ghostbusters (overalls rucksack and water gun sprayed silver with a vacuum hose from the rucksack to the gun) , Zombie from the Thriller video?

  • Matching white stilettos with a white handbag:rotfl:

Franki says relax, or choose life logo t shirts, as mentioned above.

Defo rara skirts, again as above.

Plastic white or neon hoops in your ears, you could also have bead necklace and ear rings to match - not forgetting your leg warmers of course.

I always feel sorry for girls growing up in the 90s. So dull compared to what we had in the 80s:rotfl:

  • My friend dressed up as Siouxsie Sioux. Very easy.Mainly backcombed hair and black make up. She looked great.
  • Wasn't all neon in the 80s - remember a lot of pastel and black and white items. Long full skirts/pencil skirts/ra-ra, belts of all sorts were popular, low stilletos/pixie boots or ballet pumps (more pointy than round toed though). Big hair, big jewellery.
