i need some advice.....i purchase a £500 samsung laptop in october last year. went to turn it on tonight and it would not boot up. called the samsung helpline and had to do a system restore which meant i lost all my files.
question is....if this has happened after just 3 months, of hardly any use i may add, i am not happy at all.
do i have a right to return it to the shop for a refund?

No, you may have installed something on it that led to needing the system restore. This points to software related so not faulty.
Takes hardware failure before you would be entitled to a refund, even then the retailer can choose to repair or replace before considering a refund.0 -

...you did have lot's of back up files didn't you?...some...maybe the important ones at least?0 -
If it's a hardware fault no, if it's a software fault that was fixed by restoring it back to the factory settings no.0

If you didn't make a back up it's not Samsung's fault. It's even recommended in many laptop's instruction manuals, a 16GB pen drive is pennies compared to the cost of the laptop and would mean you had a safe copy of all your data.
Might be worth investing for next time, I make regular backups this way.
And you'll need to send it for repair, no rights to a refund.0 -
Did the computer work after the system restore? If so, it's not a hardware faultSquirrel! If I tell you who I work for, I'm not allowed to help you. If I don't say, then I can help you with questions and fixing products. Regardless, there's still no secret EU law.

And after 3 months you have no legal *right* to a refund (although some stores might give it to you)Nothing I say represents any past, present or future employer.0

Then you need to approach your retailer and don't let them fob you off to the manufacturer again. You are unlikely to get a refund given it's age but you could get a repair or possibly a replacement machine.0

Samsung generally don't let other people repair their laptops, so you'll be quicker phoning them again. Just tell the agent that you have done a system recovery and it hasn't fixed anything, and they should get it repaired for you.Squirrel! If I tell you who I work for, I'm not allowed to help you.
