Yes she gets her second injection soon, so we will both be able to get out of the house.
I will start locking the crate when I go to bed. I guess she will just have to get used to it as much as I will have to learn what to do to get the best out of her.
One question: will she eventually get back to eating properly? The food is close to the crate & she knows where it is. I am thinking about maybe intorducing small amounts of wet food, so that in the end she gets a mix of both wet & dry. She is on Pets at Home Advanced Nutrition, although I wouldn't mind getting her off it eventually so I don't have to go to Pets At Home & can get the food online.0 -
Personally I wouldn't mix it. That type of dried food is meant as a complete food, which means you shouldn't need anything else added. Once you start mixing them you will end up with a dog that wants two types of food mixed together (so double the price!!), and the balance of the nutrients in the food will be wrong.
I wouldn't worry. She won't starve, she'll help herself when she's hungry. I think you can buy the PaH food online anyway though.0 -
Can anyone recommend some puppy wipes for dog 10 weeks old? Just want to give her a rub over to get her used to being bathed & groomed. I am going to get a Zoom Groom to aid getting used to grooming.0

Unless you're going to show her, you shouldn't need to bath her that often. I would say instead of wipes that you could use a (dog only!) flannel dampened with plain warm water.
A slicker brush would also probably be a better investment than a Zoom Groom.0 -
I don't intend to bath her in this weather unless totally needed. Just need something to give her quick wash kind of thing. I'll check out the brush you mentioned. Thanks0

If she's not eating out of a bowl do you think you could save the food and use it in training instead? So when you take her out she gets a few bits of food for 'going', you can use it for basic commands and lead walking.
She's probably not used to eating it all at once either- I've known dogs that were bowl fed and would look at the bowl and be like 'I'm not eating all of that!' but when they were hand fed because they couldn't see how much they were eating they would happily take it. I wonder if the amount of food you're giving her is contributing to this.
Another thing you could try is just putting one piece in the bowl at a time, then as she decides to take it put another piece in and build it up.
It might be more appealing then.
With the howling what you need to remember is to ignore the howling as if you encourage it now then it'll only get worse. It's hard to do, but losing one night's sleep is so much better than losing years worth of sleep! Of course she'll need to go out very regularly so ensure that you let her out every few hours (at night time I find you can lax this slightly- probably for a maximum of 5 hours although I can't remember exactly) but when she's awake I'd take her out immediately after food, water, sleep, play. Basically whenever you change activities. I did this every 30 minutes with my dog, she got housetrained very quickly!0 -
For the accidents we used Ridovit Pet Stain and odoeur remover which I think OH got from PaH.
Am terrible jealous (even though I wouldn't swop spot for all the world) - I can live with 3 of my colleagues expecting babies but someone having a new pup .....well that's just not fair!2014 Target;

We had great success when Murph was a puppy by taking him out to his 'patch' in the garden and saying 'go toilet Murphy.' As he grew, when we were out for walks he would wait until we said the magic words and run off and hide, to do his business in a bush - no idea why as we didn't teach him this - where he thought no one could see him go.
(Unfortunately he would go in head first so the vital end was sticking out - he thought he was being really clever :rotfl:)0
