Totally agree with all above posts. Pond life barstewards, who if contacted, will ring and harass you repeatedly. Let them provide real evidence first and then consider what to do.If you've nothing decent to say, perhaps you shouldn't say anything.
£2 savings jar £300:D
Total credit card debts £1250:mad::mad::mad::mad::mad: - Will I ever learn!!0 -
@fatbelly and @bottleofred - thanks for your comments. When I rang I believe I withheld my number (141 prior to dialling the 0844 number - what a surprise) - I was also confused by the single ring tone as opposed to our UK one, but that's an aside.
In a bit more detail (from my memory):
Sky was in my name only as I was bought it as a gift.
I divorced completely (Decree Abosolut) in November 2007.
I had moved out of the marital home in October(ish) of 2006. Although kept paying bills for the property up to the bitter end as I still had some stake in the property.
All bills were transferred to my ex-wife except for Sky which was cancelled outright 9through discussions with them).
Also, I had mail re-direct set up, which would have captured any correspondence from Sky that covers the period in question.
I think then that I will ignore for the time being and see what happens.
Thanks all and I will provide updates if they come along.0 -
Yep, absolutely never talk on the phone to collection agencies in general - and that applies especially to Mackenzie Hall.
No good can ever come of it.0 -

Have you recently supplied your details to one of these "free credit check" companies ?
They are a scam, they know people with past ghosts will visit and fill in the nice form.
Nothing in life is free and they will sell the new information to debt collectors.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0 -
My details have not been supplied to anyone,or filled out any forms.0

Hello to all. I received a letter from Mackenzie hall which they posted on the 19/01/12, It was to my address saying they were trying to get hold of me (or someone with the same name as me anyway). Before I even had chance to respond either confirming or denying the person they were looking for lived at my address I received another letter sent by them on the 20/01/12 - the day after the first one was sent. This 2nd letter was demanding payment for a debt I know nothing about, It offered to lower the final sum if I paid up early.
After reading about this company I wonder if there's a case to complain about something they have already been reported for, basically this bit of information below :
1. That as of 15 April 2009
1 .I Mackenzie Hall Limited will not carry out Debt Collection Activity
where it has been informed, in writing, that there is reasonable cause
to believe that the debt is in dispute.
It then goes on to say that a debt is in dispute when it is reasonably disputed that the person being pursued for the debt is the actual debtor.
They way I see it they had no proof that I may be the debtor before demanding payment.
Any comments would be helpful

Do i go into details with them about how much was paid and dates and where or do i just state was is on the "prove it letter" and the basics.0

Hi, well I can't give much advice on here apar from listen to the guys above. I believe it is all good.
As an update to my issue with MH since receiving a letter on Monday (and stupidly phoning them - see my initial post from Monday), I have now received another letter with text as follows (with my comments in brackets):
Despite repeated efforts for payment by our client (Sky haven't been in touch with me at all about any outstanding account) the account remains unpaid. Our clients are unaware of any legitmate reason for non-payment. However, they are willing to accept a reduced settlement figure in order to draw the matter to a close. (What? in the space of a week they have reduced a supposed settlement figure???).
(then some stuff on how to pay and when to pay by, which contiues on to say this...) Our client (so gone from 'clients' to 'client' - poor English) would prefer an amicable settlement, however, should the settlement amount not be paid by the specified date, (now text in BOLD to threaten I assume) they will not hesitate to take such further action as may be appropriate.
(then some stuff about asking questions, please feel free to contact them.....).
So my question to the floor is shall I continue to ignore orsend them the 'prove it' letter?0
