They had me right up to the point where they ask for references and one from your current employer. Ain't gonna happen.

Same here if my employers knew I was a mystery diner I would no longer be so mysterious. There is no way I want them to know about my other life.

just state you are self employed and as such your own current employer... and you will happily provide a reference on request ;)
  • What about getting a particular contact from another MSC to act as a reference? Has anyone ever tried that? Is anyone likely to help, or will they just worry that SS (or any other company requiring references) will 'steal' us away from them?

Oh no. I've been sacked by GAP after 2 months. Should I be really upset and crying my eyes out or something? Check your emails because they may have evicted you too! :o:o:o

On a good note, my overall mark for REACT is now a 10 and I'm well chuffed. Woohoo.

Well, they can't have sacked me, they won't even let me sign up! :p I assume they already have enough people or something, as I've ticked all the boxes to say I have a car, printer, scanner, PDA (which I suppose is almost an old-fashioned term for a smartphone), camera, etc. Oh well, see it the way I do; it might not be so good for the bank balance, but your waistline will be relieved of it! :D

Well done on your 10 with React! Mind you, I have one too, and it doesn't always help me get work with them :( Actually, they haven't had much work round my way for ages! All I can see is the burger visits, and I'm not going out of my way for what is effectively a free cheap meal. I hope they bring back the egg/baguette shop promotions visits this summer, those were great little jobs for the fee and report length.

Both me and my bruv got sacked. Must have been doing something wrong. Oh well, their loss, not mine. They have lost a sassy shopper!

The promotion visits for REACT are top notch. I can remember doing a TNS supermarket. Swanned in. Bought my stuff for the nice reimbursement. Did the check at the till. Report took like 3 minutes to do. Top visit or what!

Sorry to hear that mimi, their loss! It sounds like you are still doing OK on the fine dining front so who needs burgers.

Never did any of the GAP burgers. Who needs GAP when the lovely Karen from REACT lets me do shed loads of burgers eh? Only reason I liked GAP was for the stamps, but to stuff with them.

Is everyone enjoying the glorious weather today?

I'm not sure if this something that anyone here can help me with but I thought it was worth a try. Obviously like everyone else I do my tax return for the previous tax year for my mystery shopping income but when I started my new job for the first two months I paid emergency tax. I was basically charged £2000 more tax than I should have been (by my own calculation). Do I have to wait until I do my tax return for this financial year next year or can I claim that tax back separately? I tried to claim in on the website but it wouldn't let me.
  • Hi, i've just started mystery shopping but am having a hard time registering as self employed and claiming low income allowance/tax credits. the problem is that i really dont know how much money i can expect to be making.. this is complicated further as i plan to launch my own business in around 4 weeks and continue mystery shopping in the evening (as i know that it might take a while to start earning).

could anyone here please give me some advice on how i should fill out these HMRC forms??
