Hi there, new to this MS'ing thing, have been thinking about it for a while, finally decided to take the plunge and register for a few MS'ing companies.

Just a couple of questions (i've had a search of the thread and can't find anything on these specific points)

Is it worth me setting up a seperate bank acount for doing this, just for ease of use and tracking really, as if i have an account just for Msing i don't have to sift through all my other expenses and payments to work out where i am ? (i will be keeping records of everything anyway but if i need to go back and check things sifting through my account for Ms related stuff seems like it could be a bit of a pain)

the other question is about tax, i'm aware of having to register as self employed to ensure i'm all up together with HMRC, with us being in Feb and the tax year ending soon, how will it work for the last 2 months of the tax year ? Having never done anything like this, i'm aware that self assessment forms for HMRC go in at the end of Jan does this mean when i register as self employed i will just work out my tax in Jan 2013 or will i have to sort something before the end of this tax year? I've had a look on HMRC website and all it talks about is 2011/2012 tax year.

Sorry if these questions seem silly, but any advice would be much appreciated.

The tax debate I will leave to those far more experienced than me. But in terms of the bank account I would say it's almost essential to set up a separate account. I can monitor my cashflow, know exactly what comes in and when and it doesnt get muddled with my normal bank account ie FT job, bills, DD's etc. I have a current account so I buy everything on my debit card, I think it also helps you spend exactly how much you need to as apposed to drawing out £20 spending £17 and spending the rest on nowt!
Well, you can tell by the way I use my walk
I'm a woman's man: no time to talk

Anything earned between now and april will need to be done on the 2011/2012 tax return. This return will be due by something like January 2013 but you could fill it out straight away in April.
A lot of people leave it till the end but I just do it asap to get it out of the way :)
Anything earned after that will be on the 2012/2013 tax return (January 2014 deadline I think)

I think this is right. Someone might correct me if it is wrong though!

Ah i see, so the tax returns work a year behind basically then.

    Thanks.

If you get a bit of experience in, there are often nice jobs at banks, setting up accounts. A separate account is useful - even nicer if you are paid to open it !

Keep an eye on the job boards and at least you'll know which banks get MS'd and which it is useful to have an account with.

also check martins tips for acccounts which pay out, and dont forget quidco too as you can make more from these than a job to open an account some times ;)
dont mention to banks its for business though, as they may not let you have a current free account

I think you will be fine to send an email and maybe give a ring shortly after 9 tomorrow morning as well if you can. I had a load go overdue a couple of weeks ago but couldn't get the results on due to computer problems. I rang first thing and they extended them all.
