It will be fine - lid or no lid. How would it be ruined???

We get loads of rain here. Loads and loads. Worried it would get too soggy.

Thanks for all your advice everyone. I'll try seven gardens down, and then ring the place I got it. I got it through the council but I actually think it was from somewhere down south who supply to all councils....

    Thanks again!

I had the same problem, I got in touch with my local council who rang the company and 3 days later 2 new lids arrived.
  • After the proper lid went out of shape I used an old dustbin lid. So far so good! Though it is sheltered from south and westerly winds, east and north winds haven't dislodged it yet.

Last time I lost the lids for my compost bins the local kids had pinched them to go sledging on........

If you're worried about your compost becoming waterlogged while you get new ones, put several thick layers of newspapers on top of it, just inside the lid. (Think three copies of the Sunday Times thick, not the Daily Record. A THICK layer.) It will soak up the rain and provide insulation.

I know you can make them but I am no good at stuff like that. I was thinking of just getting a cheap dustbin and cutting the bottom out but dont know if this would work. Just looked around the garden cenrtre and the plastic ones there are huge and I would never fill it with my small garden and there is only me so I dont get much kitchen waste. does anyone know the cheapest place to get them from?

Try putting your postcode in here as your local council may be offering a discount on them via the recyclenow site.
