Electric panel heaters??

Hi,
I am all electric and have storage heaters throughout the house apart from the bathroom. In there, I have a Dimplex fan heater on the wall....Basically, Im fed up of this heater cutting out all the time even though the room is still cold. There is no other heating in or next to this room and it is icey cold in winter.
So, my question is; can anyone reccommend a small electric panel heater, that I can fix to the wall and connect to the fused spurr?
I also think that a panel heater might also be cheaper to run?? either on a timer or wired in??
My bathroom is about 5x4m, so not that hard to heat, I would of thought! It would just be nice to have a warm snug bathroom to walk into in the mornings:) I might even be tempted to have relaxing baths in the evenings instead of a very quick shower!!!:D
Thanks!

A panel heater won't be cheaper to run.
If the fan heater 'cuts out' a lot it might just be the thermosat requires turning up. Don't forget that steam etc rising might 'fool' the thermostat into thinking the bathroom is warmer.
Also be aware that fitting any electrical device in a bathroom requires special measures.0 -
A panel heater won't be cheaper to run. The fan heater i have in place now uses 2kwh, but i've seen a small Dimplex solid panel that is 0.4kwh. Thought if I put it on a timer overnight on the E7, i'd at least wake up to a warm room without a giant increase in cost?
If the fan heater 'cuts out' a lot it might just be the thermosat requires turning up. Already tried this!!! Don't forget that steam etc rising might 'fool' the thermostat into thinking the bathroom is warmer. Which is why I need another form of heating. Not sure if it's just the steam though....it can be on for only a minute or 2, then goes off....the room has'nt even warmed up, steam or ottherwise!:(
Also be aware that fitting any electrical device in a bathroom requires special measures. Yes, I have a plumber friend who said as long as the unit is sealed it would be okay!0 -

If you want good quality heat in the bathroom then use a fan heater use a halogen heater or use a much more powerful oil filled radiator such as 2kW or 3kW.
My guess is the air vents on your fan heater are clogged up with dust. It's heating the air overheating and switching itself off.
BTW.....My bedroom is smaller than your bathroom. 5m*4m is a huge bathroom. That is a difficult space to heat cheaply without gas central heating and kept ventilated. My bathroom is about 2m*2m. Fan heater works perfectly.:footie:Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S)

0.4kWh will do nothing. I have a 0.8kW mini oil filled radiator in my bedroom. There's also a 0.8kwh panel heater available by Dimplex??I leave it on all night to keep the room from being freezing cold at night. It's thermostat is set to maximum but uses about 400W per hour cycling on and off. The heater itself feels very hot but the room temperature does drop and it can only hold the room at about 12 degrees.

My guess is the air vents on your fan heater are clogged up with dust. Check this on a regular basis. I use the vaccum on it when Im cleaning to keep it clear! It's heating the air overheating and switching itself off.
BTW.....My bedroom is smaller than your bathroom. 5m*4m is a huge bathroom. This is where I got confused. I've actually measured it properly now.... It's 6ft x5ft, my apologies:o. I got my metres mixed up with feet!!! That is a difficult space to heat cheaply without gas central heating and kept ventilated. My bathroom is about 2m*2m. Fan heater works perfectly.
I decided this morning to put the fan heater on before I go for a shower....so no steam etc. Went back after 10 mins, it had turned it self off...this is rediculous....I need some proper heat in there!!!:(

Just buy a new fan heater and your problem will disappear.0

Can you add another storage heater into your system. We have a Dimplex bathroom storage heater in our bathroom and it has made such a difference.
These heaters are tiny 33 cm wide, and 0.9 kw. In our case, the electrician was able to wire it into the storage heater system as the wall it is on is back to back with the storage heater in the living room.
More expensive to buy than a panel heater, but well worth the money.0 -

Thank you for replying. I had no idea that they did a storage heater for bathrooms! :j I will definately enquire about one, now! What size is your bathroom? I did think that 0.8 to 1kw would be plenty to heat my small room!!!
Thanks again!:T :beer:0 -

Halogen heaters are no more expensive than any other form of electrical heating. What I suggest is something high powered but used rarely. A 0.85kW storage heater left on all night will consume 6kWh of energy. The room will be cold by evening. A properly fitted and working 2kw heater will need to be on for 3 hours to use the same energy. As most people are only in the bathroom for less than 15 minutes then it would only consume 0.5kWh.
Last night was rather cold. Even though my 0.8kW mini oil filled radiator was on maximum all night the room temperature dropped to 8 degrees. It's under powered for the size of the room.:footie:Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S)

I don't think our storage heater is large at 33 cm wide. Yes, it does stick out from the wall more than a panel heater would do. As regards heating costs, please don't get the impression given above that the heater is consuming full heat at 0.9 kw all night. There is a thermostat and it would be actually using kw for around half the time at most. (Our one is an automatic, slightly more advanced than the basic).
It heats the small bathroom (approx 2.5 x 2 metres) all day and well into the evening.
As regards heating costs, I keep a careful note on these and at the coldest time in winter our 6 storage heaters (3 large, 2 medium and bathroom) plus immersion heater, fridge/freezer, etc are using a total of 60 kw overnight on the off-peak rate. We supplement the sitting room heating in the evening with a coal-effect electric heater (again on a thermostat) which uses very little heat to top up the temperature because the background is still warm.0
