The Blekin rep says that it is a problem with my internet provider. I rang NTL/Virgin, who were not at all helpful, I can connect via ethernet cable and therefore can connect, not their problem

Well yes they are right, it isnst their problem. You are getting broadband ok so its the router. I take it you used the easy install cd(they arent easy at all).

Which wireless router have you bought...model number etc
:confused:I have nothing better to do!!!!

We bought a new computer with Vista and rang NTL/VM and basically got no help.
Tried connecting via Ethernet and it worked straight away.

the wireless router needs to be set for DHCP, not the DSL/cable options (where you enter your password etc) otherwise you will not get a connection (the user-id/password are in the cable modem)

NTL/Telewests wireless routers + software combinations will not work on Vista

    1) the wireless router is "locked" to their settings and you are unable to get into the admin panels

2)the software that generates the key from the "passphrase" on the back of the wireless router does not run under Vista

rather than wait for them I would go get my own unlocked ones like these

Agree totally with Browntoa, just buy a normal wireless router instead of the locked down ISP ones, they're a real pain. I'm with Virgin Media (formerly Telewest) and have my own Netgear router. I got a Vista PC on Tuesday and to connect to the internet all I had to do was plug in an ethernet cable from the router to the PC.
It's my problem, it's my problem
If I feel the need to hide
And it's my problem if I have no friends
And feel I want to die

  • Have managed to get my vista working with ntl/virgin but the internet connection is only lasting 30 mins then cuts me off ! any ideas:confused:
