I bought a toshiba laptop yesterday with vista. Ntl are not accepting responsibility for the vista yet as it is new software and they are not trained in it yet, feeble excuse after the change over yesterday with virgin media. I was eventually put threw to a engineer after a lot of complaining he was really helpful and managed to get my broadband up and running step by step over the phone. So far really good still lots to learn.

There's no reason not to be able to get VirginMedia broadband working with vista. There's no real need to install the broadband disk that comes with your installation as it can all be done without, as the tech explained to you.
There's still a long way to go before the CSRs are up to Virgin's high standards.- = I also recognise the Robins and beep for them = -0 -

Never use the disk supplied by the ISP. It'll just load a bunch of garbage onto the PC and 'brand' all the apps with some moronic marketing twaddle.0 -

Telewest use "custom" software on their adapters and "locked" routers, the software is not Vista compatable (neither are most of the usb adapters) and without the software you cannot generate the "key" to connect to the router. As the router is locked you cannot access the Admin panel and see the key
Telewest web site just says "we do not support at this time"
did they not notice it was coming ??Ex forum ambassador

Someone tells me that the ntl modem will not work with vista if you have it connected to your pc via a usb cable and it will only work using the ethernet set up. Is this true? Does the 'engineer talked me through it' post above refer to problems setting up via usb or setting up in general? I have ordered a new pc that has vista and don't fancy running 2 pc's until ntl/virgin get sorted! I also read that my iTunes won't work with vista either!0

Hey, Does anyone know how to get ntl broadband working with windows vista? i tried setting it up on my laptop today but it wouldnt go any further than the usb connection stage.
thanks in advance for any help anyone can give me. x x x0 -
the usb adapter no longer works, neither does the software..is it a Netgear MA111 adapter ??
only way is to buy a new vista compatable usb adapter, and if NTL supplied the router, a new router as well
this is a good deal

If you are using a single computer to the cable modem, use an ethernet cable.
To get it to work you'll need to set your ethernet connection up to be DHCP and it should pick up the cable modem connection with no further fuss. If not, post here and we'll help out. There's a page on VM's site HERE that explains it.
If you are using the wireless connection, things may get a little more difficult as you'll need to get your WEP/WPA key to be able to connect to your router. I know that they Broadband install did some of the setup for you, but I don't know how to manually configure that.
You should be able to pick up a Vista driver for your USB dongle from the netgear site if you search for your model number HERE- = I also recognise the Robins and beep for them = -0 -
I too are having difficulties!
I am a bit of a technophobe, so have very little knowledge!
I bought a wireless laptop (windows vista) and router yesterday! Eventually with the help of ntl I am able to connect to the internet with my ethernet connection plugged into my network card on the laptop.
When I try to connect via the router, I can't! I took my router and alptop back to PC world, where the laptop will connect to their wireless internet connection. The swapped my original philips modem to a belkin one.
When I got home, again I was unable to connect wireless!!! I have spoken to the Belkin representative who I think was helpful! Via the cmd window I get information that states that when I type in for example
ping bbc.com
i get four responses - I think correct.
BUT when i type in an ip address i get the message timed out.
The Blekin rep says that it is a problem with my internet provider. I rang NTL/Virgin, who were not at all helpful, I can connect via ethernet cable and therefore can connect, not their problem.
Anybody got any ideas????
I was soo excited at getting a laptop, my PC is 8 years old and was really struggling to do anything! and now I am limbo, NTL say it is the router problem, router say it is ISP.
thanks in anticipation0
