chip shop fryer buzzing noise in my flat !

Can anybody please please help/advise me regarding a buzzing noise in my flat (coming through the wall, right at my sofa) - I know it's coming from the fryer in a chip shop nearby because I eliminated everything else and then phoned the chip shop to ask them to switch everything off and on while I was on the phone. This is a new noise as I have lived in the flat for 18 yrs and the noise only started about 6 or7 months ago. It starts about 6pm when the shop opens and gets louder and louder as evening goes on, going off back of 11. I am getting nowhere with chip shop boss and council night noise team were not interested as noise not loud enough for them to get involved apparently. I am at my wits end and avoid going home as constant buzzing drives me mad !. Anyone got any experience or advice as to what to try next ? I would be very grateful for your help - Heather x

I would take the floor up and have a look. Is this something you can do?

  • Thanks...but the chip shop is not underneath me - it's behind my property, ajoining me by another building. The noise is not coming from the floor - it's actually half way up the walls - level with your ears when you're sitting on the sofa!!!

I asked my leccy friend, says sounds like the fryer cant cope as its overloaded causing it to vibrate.
where exactly is the shop in relation to your flat? is it below or next to you, or a few doors away?

  • yes there is a connecting building (a staircase) - do you mean too much in the fryer or electrically overloaded? noone else is getting the noise.

Are you certain its from the fryer?

where do you live pm if you dont want to say..
  • guy in chip shop switched off things individually at the end of the night while I was on the phone in the flat and noise stopped when he switched off the fryer. He then switched it back on and off and noise stopped and started as he was doing this. He said "its the fryer" and said he would get the boss to phone me. I live in Edinburgh. Thanks for replying
