Can anyone recommend a high calorie cat food? Our older cat has shed a lot of weight and this is being investigated by the vet but in the mean time she needs feeding up.
Thank you

I would be careful and get advice of the vet. Last thing you want to do is put too much strain on, for example, struggling kidneys.0

They've ruled out the kidneys. They think it's a thyroid problem atm but she's going for more blood tests soon. In the mean time we've just been advised to feed her up to try and put some weight on her because she's skeletal0

That's good news, at least. Maybe a high calorie supplement paste would help? Means the cat doesn't have to increase its consumption. Something like this - http://www.petmeds.co.uk/p-3648-nurish-um-cat-paste.aspx?=googleshopping&CAWELAID=4485526640

The one thing I would worry about is the wording on the description...
Nurish-UM Cat Paste
Nurish-UM Cat is a high calorie, tasty and nutritional supplement providing a range of essential vitamins and minerals for your dog. :T0 -

That sounds perfect thank you.
She does love the dogs' Chappie but they're enormous and she's tiny so she never manages to steal much of it!0 -
I got my cat off a lady which was near death...she weighed 1.2 kgs:mad::( the vet prescribed the a/d food for cats. its a soft pate but it can be diluted into a soup too if you wish. it did help build up my kitty immensley and apperently its very tasty for cats (sadly she has PKD so weight will allways be an issue)***MSE...My.Special.Escape***0

Our vet has advised us to try our skinny mog on kitten food as he has lost a kilo in the last 6 months. We are hoping its down to stress (recent house move) over dominant brother and the fact he has no teeth and recurrent gingervitus.
He is currently highly confused as I keep making him get up and eat every few hours!Crafting for 2009 items doneOne patchwork blanket, two neck supports, one tea cosy, one knitted bunny, one knitted egg!0 -
Isn't kitten food higher in calories in general? Maybe you could try that as a temporary measure until the blood tests have come back. I'm no expert but I can't imagine it'd do any harm, specially if she does not have problems with her kidneys. Maybe give her any fatty trimmings from your meat?0

If you want her to put on some fat rather than muscle, try giving her a combi of fat + carbs - same as in humans it will increase her fat levels - eg give her cooked rice soaked in the liquid fat from your own lamb chops.
Like a bird fat ball which is grain (carb) + fat (or a human bad diet = fatty burger + carby bun or fatty gravy + yorkshire pudding LOL) this will help her store fat
If she needs muscle, give her high protein
I have been doing this over the last week or two with my skinny girl who the vet says has no underlying cause other than old age, and the difference is remarkable, and she is definietly warmer for having fat stores now
HTHYou never know how far-reaching something good, that you may do or say today, may affect the lives of others tomorrow0
