If you place an order with BT for a new phone line & broadband you will be sent a BT Home Hub. The outer packaging contains an order number. Type that order number into BT's website, along with the post code that is on the package and you can see the following information about the account holder...
1. Name and full address of account holder
2. Services requested with estimated activation dates
3. Telephone number assigned to the new account
4. Account holder's e-mail address
5. Account holder's contact phone number
The is a blatant breach of principle 7 of the Data Protection Act.

If true (and I'm not saying it isn't, by any means), then yes, that's more than just a little remiss.
The one thing that springs to mind: if you had the BT site open (assuming the tracking link is part of the BT site), and..
You were logged into your account, and..
You then go to the page and put the tracking number in, it might check, find you are already logged in, and then serve the page.
If not, you're sent to log in and asked for private data to confirm the person requesting the information is entitled to it.
That's how it ought to work.0 -
I have no login details for any BT account!0

I'm sure the BT reps have picked this one up, it needs dealing with very quickly before a customer gets a call from some random stranger up to mischief giggling down the phone "We've got your HomeHub here".
Not having a good week with them, are you

If you are correct, then this should be reported to the Information Commissioner at ICO immediately - don't faff about waiting for BT to react to your complaint in the other thread!!!0

You really do have it in for BT, don't you."There are not enough superlatives in the English language to describe a 'Princess Coronation' locomotive in full cry. We shall never see their like again". O S Nock0

Such a breach of the Data Protection Act is NOT a criminal offence. The Information Commissioner's complaints procedure is that I have to try to resolve the issue with BT first! Until I do that, the Information Commissioner will not consider my complaint.0 -

I think this is a pretty serious issue - and I am not even a customer of BT!0 -

Are you not yourself in breach of some computer misuse act if the parcel was not intended for you and you are inputting data from the said parcel, are you not at least for a moment stealing somebody's identity?
I have to fall on the side of the other posters to suggest you have it in for the large company and perhaps too much time on your hands, may I suggest xhamster.com?0 -

The package was addressed to me at my address!
A worker (Shabuddin Shaik) based in an Indian Call Centre fraudulently placed an order in my name, you can read about it here...
