I weighed myself on the scales at the gym which have the body fat monitor. It said I had gone up by 1.5% fat!

I sat in the changing rooms extremely despondent.

  • have not read the other replies but i was at the gym recently on a weight machine and one of the personal trainers came up to me and said 'honestely, with your frame (4'11, 129lb) those machines will not make an ounce of difference to you losing weight' and he took me into a room and made me do lunges with light wrist weights and some star jumps. I swear after about 3 minutes i was sweating and absolutely knackered. He told me that doing just that for about 15 minutes per day, every day would see results much quicker than spending hours on a weight machine or cross trainer/bicycle. He also said I didnt need to go to the gym to do this. So i've been working out from home and i've lost weight in just two weeks.

Did you see a trainer to get a personal fitness plan? I think that would be best if you want to see results. I still go to the gym, but only for the swimming/sauna/leisure <3

I train Jujitsu, Muay Thai and wrestling for MMA (Mixed Martial Arts). I trained 5 times a week (2Hrs a session), it took 6 months of solid training, healthy diet and reduction of beer before I noticed my fitness was at a competitive level. However in saying that in them six months I droped from 96kg to 77kg.

Just keep at it, enjoy it and you will not even think about the weight, it will take care of its self.

Bluis, I feel your pain! Did you weigh yourself before or after exercise? I've heard that you can seem heavier if you weigh yourself after exercise.

Well I'm still going, but I tried on my dress yesterday and still cant do it up....

I know I've only been going for 3 weeks, but I thought I might have made some difference by now!

I did weigh myself on the scales I always weigh myself on at work (GP surgery, so they are pretty acurate!!) and I have lost 6 lbs according to that. I think the ones at the gym are compromised as they are not only on carpet, but on a spongy wooden floor (or am I just trying to make myself feel better????)

I have upped my cardio workout - 20 minutes on the cross trainer @ level 4 and then 30 mins on the treadmill at 4% @ 6.5 kmh. I cant do anymore, this is nearly the end of me! I'm sure I will b e able to do more as I go more often, but I feel so disheartened.

Keep your chin up, you're still doing really well. Carpet, flexible floors etc *will* make a difference, but tbh probably less of a difference than just your natural variation in weight day to day. (I went for 9 days reporting exactly the same weight, then the next day was 2lbs heavier, the next day 3lbs lighter, then I've been back to the original weight for another 5 days - random!)

6lbs in three weeks is a very good rate of weight loss. If you keep that up you'll be a good two stone lighter in a couple of months time, which is amazing. Having said that, as it will be coming off all over you, it's unlikely that you'll see a massive difference in body shape just yet - but you just need a little patience.

BLUis, well done for keeping it going so far, it does get easier and you'll feel motivated as you see the weight come off and your clothes get looser.

Here's something to make you feel good, BLUis.

I'm also trying to lose weight for my big day. I have just over seven months (eek!) and I'm 5'5'' and weigh 18st8lbs. Obviously I know I can't get to the perfect weight in that time, but I'm just going to try to be healthier and see where it leads me.

I've read through this thread and feel really inspired - so thanks! You're obviously working really hard, and it's going to pay dividends in the end. It's only been three weeks, but you've lost six pounds and I think that's great. It shows how well you're doing!

I often "start" a diet but never really get past the second week. I'm currently only on my second DAY and I'm feeling hunger pangs - I think that's because of the way I'm doing it though. My advisor at my gym (which I've been going to regularly for a long time, but always manage to offset my efforts by eating enough cake to not really lose any weight) has suggested I try to eat to keep my metabolism going as I'm working so much at the moment that I really don't have time to get myself to the gym. (Seriously.)

I'm eating breakfast which I never normally do, and it's making me SO HUNGRY during the day. I had an apple at half past ten to get my metabolism going again, and I'll have my lunch at half past twelve. I'll eat something else small and good at half past three, and then I'll have my dinner at half past six this evening. Then I might have a handful of grapes an hour before bed just to make sure things are ticking over. I'm also drinking plenty of water to offset hunger pangs.

I'm not sure how it's going to work out yet being only on day 2 and all, but the theory behind it is intelligent and it should help some. Perhaps you could try something similar? :) Spread your calorie allowance into smaller meals or snacks and just eat more often rather than eating more...

The hunger will pass in a week or so.

I've also adjusted my diet a fair bit this year, cutting out all snacks and non-water drinks where possible.

A typical day for me at the moment looks like:
    07:00 - 2x Wheatabix, skimmed milk, OJ
12:00 - Jacket potato or soup for lunch
20:00 - Healthy meal in the evening (sometimes the M+S simply fuller ones, sometimes just a healthy meal - always replace things with the healthy eating options).
22:00 - Maybe a glass of wine before bed.

I started on this around the new year, but was pretty hungry between meals, so I bought some fruit and nuts to eat. Went through the first pack in 2-3 days as I kept nibbling on them. The second pack lasted almost a week week. The third pack has lasted two weeks so far and still a week or so's left. It's amazing how your body adapts itself.
