Gym -How long before I notice the effects??

wadewadewade wrote: »Sorry John but you're a bit misleading here - "toning" is just higher muscle mass + lower body fat. Muscles can either get bigger or smaller (not change shape) and body fat either goes down or up (as you said, not from the areas you're "targeting").
With weight loss, the most important part is the diet.
Apologies, I didn't mean to mislead. I simply meant that the exercises should be tailored towards toning (as you say, losing fat) and not towards muscle growth (in size, body building sets for instance!). There's no point in doing a load of aerobic in the hope of losing mass on your legs if you then get on a leg-press machine!"The most desirable trait of the internet is the ability to attribute quotes to anyone."

I am sure this will be against the grain BUT...
don't try and do it all at once, you will end up ill, undernourished and drained. I started a new exercise regime last year and am now doing four Zumba classes a week, For the first six weeks I was eating all low fat/low carb diets and the weight hardly shifted. It was only when I actually started eating more 'normally' that I actually started losing weight. It's taken me almost three months to lose about 11lbs. A steady weight loss of around 1.5lbs a week is ideal and sustainable.
I think going every day is too much, sorry, I know you are on a time scale but you risk doing yourself a mischief, especially if you aren't used to doing any exercise!
Thanks for the advice. I am eating 'normally' not eating low carbs or fat, just not eating cr*p. I just eat too much of the right things. Too mush pasta, too much rice and too much potato. I need to think about my portion sizes really. That will help.
Tyical day I have a sachet of porridge for breakfast, no added sugar using semi skimmed milk, crab stick salad or ryvita with cream cheese on, a couple of cup a soups (I am ADDICTED to these!!) and for tea, sweet and sour chicken, roast dinners, pasta and sauce with prawns, etc. I dont eat red meat, i just dont like it, i rarely eat sausage, love bacon, pork, chicken and fish. I think I do eat well really.
I do enjoy a pint of lager or 4, so I will be cutting that down and having g&t instead. I've given up crisps and chocolate and joined a gym, i'm not giving up my drink too!!Married the absolute love of my life on Sunday May 6th and I couldnt be happier!!!0 -
Sounds like portion control and cutting out the carp processed foods will help.
Be careful with the cup-a-soups and pasta-and-sauce though as they are loaded with salt and other additives! Real fresh soup and pasta with pesto/ HM sauce would be better.0 -
BLUis, you are doing incredibly well!!!!!!! Half a stone since 28 December! I've only lost half a pound since then! :rotfl:
Don't be so hard on yourself, my lovely - and maybe even give yourself one day a week off to rest. I would also recommend doing more resistance work - weights, squats and the like. They're great for toning you up.
Sounds like you have the discipline and drive to achieve your goal. I have to lose at least a stone for my wedding and am not 100% committed to it right now - but I need to get myself into gear and get going!!

Bluis, are you sure you really need to loose weight? You sound like you eat well, excercise well and you have lost weight. Could it be you are wanting the impossible?

Yes I need to lose 3 - 4 stone to get to my 'ideal' weight. I'm currently 15 stone and at 5'8, that makes me morbidly obese.
I have only really started eating well the last few weeks, before i was having far more fat (mash with proper butter, spaghetti carbonara, lots and lots of cheese!!!)
Its definitely NOT the impossible!Married the absolute love of my life on Sunday May 6th and I couldnt be happier!!!0 -
Ah, I had an image of you being a size 8 trying to get to a size 6 or something!! I too need to loose lots of weight. I just have to keep reminding myself that it didn't appear over night and it wont disappear overnight. I admire your resolve and you have inspired me to get off my !!!. BACK to the pilates later. I've lost about half a stone, but its all coming off the same bit, which isnt where I'm exercising!!
I need to lose another 2 stone before 6 May, in fact before then to make sure I can get into my dress.
I just feel so deflated, I know I'm expecting too much too soon, but it doesnt stop me wanting!!
you don't exercise one bit and lose fat from there
your body has a body fat % and depending on your gender/body type
depends where that ends up
working a certain part can make it look fatter! if the muscles grow under the fat
concentrate on high reps/fat burning and your diet
it will work0
