I installed the Software using my existing steam account, uninstalled as it was on the wrong disk (SSD system disk) and then re-installed on the correct disk (my apps disk). As part of the process, steam wants me to authenticate the 'new' install which I can't do as I no longer have access to the original e-mail. I have tried creating a 'new' steam account to do the install, but this is seen as trying to register the software on a different account and not allowed.

I accept that this is not steams fault, but I have been waiting 6 days for them to change my email address, with no real progress. It's rather frustrating as I have the media and a key that I have bought but cannot use because of the online registration.

This is abit complicated - have you had any response to a Steam ticket?

Is it possible at all to access the original email?

This isn't the fault of the retailer, or a fault with a game - it's an account problem, so you won't be entitled to a refund.

I'd raise another ticket - it's your only option, really. Unfortunately, the Steam FAQs do say you may need to access emails in order to activate new software, so you probably can't complain to them either, but 6 days seems a very long time. I'm usually responded too within 24 - 48 hours.
  • I find this hard to believe. Surely if the disk itself is fine and the program loads okay but doesn't actually run then the software must be classed as not fit for purpose.

I still find it hard to believe, but it obviously is the case.
    Thanks for the info !!!!!!.

I think it's a dubious claim that the item isn't faulty.
I based my post on the facts of the OP's initial post which seemed to indicate that this was an installation process issue rather that a faulty media issue, an assumption that now has been proved accurate.

While I doubt you'll get anywhere with PcWorld Or Currys in returning it (as if you look over the receipt on the back it clearly states the returns process) and unless faulty (and for software it's easy enough to tell) they won't refund or exchange.

I do however have to say Steam are very good, and if you do try your luck in PcWorld Or Currys Pickup ShoGun 2 £4.97 as you can play that till you sort out your current problem (At £5 it really is a steal)

They have a facebook and twitter apparently. Might be worth a shot posting on there? Its down this page on the right hand side:
    http://store.steampowered.com/?cc=uk

The only telephone number I can find for them is a US number.

I'm assuming from reading their support section that your account is verified and that is whats causing the issue?

Thanks to everyone who's posted, this really is a friendly forum compared to many others that I use! Following the forum hive-mind advice, it's probably best to continue to persue Steam to correct this problem....I just wish they'd hurry up!

Does the email address no longer exist or do you just not have access to it?

Is there any way to set up forwarding so that mail from that address (if it still exists) goes to your new email? I imagine its not as simple as just a lost password or you would've had it sorted by now, hence the forwarding question.

Thanks, come for the advice, stay for the atmosphere.

I'm not sure about everyone else, but I'm listening to Ibiza: The History Of Chillout, so I'm so relaxed and chilled just now I just don't care about anything.

That said, seriously stay and hang around, the worst you'll do is learn about saving money and consumer law and meet some interesting people on the less than sane subforums.

    problem, software game wont load
solution, scratch the disk, take back to shop, say no to replacement ill have a refund or credit instead

    Possible outcome.
The shop or head office check up on the game serial number and find that it has been activated or registered online so the software must have loaded at some time since the OP purchased.
On this basis they refuse the refund so the OP is left with a scratched disc which can't be used and no money to buy a replacement.
  • somehow i cant see any shop doing that (data protection act) and besides the refund/credit would be given straight away, if your asked to give id details give a false one. no trace, no comeback, money in pocket.
