Get quotes from 2 or 3 local independent GSR RGI's, specify the required boiler if you wish or take their advice. Or ask BG to quote and expect to pay 40% more...
Why does the boiler need replacing?
    What is your budget?

Ask for an estimate for a Potterton Gold (you'll probably need a 28kw) if I'm not mistaken they're about £725 + vat. They come with flue, clock and integral filling loop. This price is advertised nationally so you shouldn't pay anymore than that. They're a good boiler, good back up from heat team and I've found them to be reliable and easy to find parts for later as they're a popular make. I've fitted 13 so far and not had a complaint as yet. You should be looking at around £1200 to £1500 for boiler and labour. Can't be anymore specific than that as I haven't seen the job. If you go for a cheaper boiler you may pay more in the long run in repairs. Glowworm are cheaper but very expensive on parts, example £38 for potterton Diverter motor, £88 for same Glowworm part!
Steer clear of RavenHeat, Biasi, Ferroli if you can. Cheap now but not too well made and they look ropey after a few years.

I'm putting one of these in tomorrow. Straight swap, flush and Potterton Gold magnetic filter (TF1).

    £1625 all in.
  • I live in a 3bd semi house and I m thinking of having a combi boiler due to the fact that I have heard they are more efficient and economical and I would save space not having the tank in the airing cupboard and not having the water tank in the loft with risk of pipes bursting and flooding gone. I might think of doing an extension in the house next year so would add 2 radiators to the existing 7.....What do the experts think? Are they better than normal condensing boilers?
I have heard that Vaillant are one of the best - come with 5 year guarantees which is a relief...
What sort of costs am I looking at? and who could quote me?
    Thank you.

Who told you that combi's are more efficient and economical (presumably than a conventional boiler)? There is no basis for this claim.
Combi's suit a particular lifestyle, only you will know whether they suit you.
This assumes that your property is even suitable for a combi in terms of gas supply and water pressure, only a proper site survey by a GSR RGI can tell you that.
Properly installed and maintained pipes and tanks do not burst or flood.

But if he/she has a combi already, a normal system will require loads of additional piping, tanks, and cost.

The OP has a combi, but anahata123 apparently does not.
anahata123, welcome to the forum, but it's better to start your own new thread rather than hijack someone else's-that way this sort of confusion is avoided.
