Three (3) Dongle Connection Problems Nightmare!

This all started two days ago. I have a ZTE network 3 dongle on contract. Im currently 12 months into my 24 month contract and so far i have had no problems with connection or speeds (apart from when we had the really bad winds a few weeks ago).

All of a sudden 2 days ago it suddenly wont connect to the internet. the dongle has full signal but keeps saying connection attempt failed. Now i know a lot about computers and went about un-installing the dongle and all relative drivers, restarting my laptop and reinstalling the dongle. This made no difference so i check the settings for everything, tried so many different things and non of which made a blind bit of difference. Even tried it on my netbook with no avail.

Rang three and after an hour on the phone of them telling me to do exactly what i have already done (uninstalling everything etc) it still didnt work then i got cut off. as it was late i wasnt about to ring back three and end up speaking to a different advisor and going through the same step by step i had already done myself and with a different advisor so i left it.

the next day i tried again and still not working. rang three explained that i had already spoken to an advisor before and that i had been through the uninstallation route with them which didnt work and explained that i got cut off. the advisor then preceded to make me go through the step by step uninstallation again only to get cut off again!

Angry isnt the word. It must b a problem with the dongle as both my laptops cannot be broke considering only a few days before both laptops worked fine with the dongle. nothing has been downloaded on either laptops, and one runs xp and one runs vista so i dont know whats happening but i know i am not ringing the call centre again.

I am going to go into my local three shop and explain whats been happening see if they can sort it. Well they will sort it because im not paying for something that i cannot use. I have heard stories of people being told they have to pay for a new dongle. I am not about to let that happen considering i havent broken it. So they either fix or replace it or i dont pay for the rest of the contract.

Anyone else had this problem and if they have how did you sort it and were three helpful in fixing the problem or replacing the dongle?

P.S sorry for the rant just really annoyed!!!

  • It sounds like you've done exactly the right things, and that the dongle is faulty.

    One way to test it for sure - find out where "your" cell is at www.sitefinder.org.uk

    Now find the next nearest one.

    Jump in the car with the dongle and the laptop, drive over and try it there. If it works there, the dongle isn't faulty and it's something else.

    Likewise, if you go into their store, they ought to plug it into a machine there, and discover that it is indeed faulty.

    Your contract has got nothing to do with your Dongle. You are paying for the SIM and the service this unlocks. If the dongle is faulty, then SOGA will ensure its replacement under warranty, but this does not stop the service charges. Have you logged in to the 3UK site and checked what it says about your account? I have seen issues where the account is blocked, and the dongle is fine.
