Does anyone else wonder if they are missing Terry Leahy?

I think Leahy (who as a fellow Evertonian I like) was much better at interviews than the new guy, but the problems are probably a few years in the making and he bailed out at the right time.

Customer service in my local store is awful but it is always packed whereas a Sainsburys 2 miles away always seem empty. The problem with reducing costs (checkout staff, availability, range etc) is that most people shop in the same store week after week, month after month until they get so hacked off they try another store. If they like it there they are probably lost for good.

They have also acknowledged that they have plundered the UK operation to invest overseas where margins are lower and they seem doomed to fail in the USA.

    * Higgidy pies, esp the beef, stilton and ale

    Mmmm pies.

How do these compare to Pieminster pies ? - which are fantastic but a tad expensive when bought at a Supermarket.

We have a very insular view of our major companies. Tesco's profits in Asia grew 30% last year (2010/11).

All that's been reported by retailers is sales figures. What will be more relevant is actual bottom line profit figures.

Margins are higher in the UK than Asia and Europe, and all supermarkets are highly sensitive to sales volumes.

Meanwhile they continue to lose money in the USA.

They might as well have just tipped a couple of billion pounds into the Atlantic - they have little chance of suceeding in that market.

I can't stand Tesco, mainly because it's full of mothers screaming swear words at "Jade" and "Hunter" while running round causing chaos. Our Tesco is slap in the middle of a horrible area. I suspect it's different in other towns.

  • People are finally realising that despite their ClubCard points, the food is actually horrible, none of the meat is from UK farmlands and it's generally a filthy place to do your shopping. Or maybe that's just my view.

The majority of it is down to their approach this Christmas. 'The Big Christmas Sale' or whatever it was just fell flat on it's !!!!. People want the points, not another 'Sale' which is on at every store these days, 24/7. Can't remember the last furniture shop I went into that didn't have one on. Ridiculous.

Good news is Waitrose, M & S, Morrissons all did well. Much finer institutions.

my local tesco has gone down hill , they have put large boxes down the center of the isle for people to try to walk around, so end up with traffic jams of trollys. And the customer support is
terrible. I made a complaint 2 months ago , followed it up twice and still no reply. So now I am shopping at Sainsburys , where the staff are old fashioned and I like it , its sir or madam .
when I ask if they have a product they go out of the way to find it, they are polite and friendly.
But the Tesco staff have rolled their eyes in the back of their head when Ive asked a question.
    Kindness costs nothing :)

I detest pretty much everything about Tesco and shop at Sainsbugs myself. However, there is something seriously wrong with your taste buds if you prefer Sainsbugs fresh cooked chicken.

    Fresh chicken. As in refridgerated!

Never tried their coooked ones tbh.
