Can anyone help me with getting creases out of my daughters satin prom dress? I ordered it last week from China (although she has had her heart set on it for the last 2 years lol!), for her year 11 prom. It arrived today and it is STUNNING to say the least but it has some heavy creases in it. I know that most of them will drop out but there are one or two that I am a bit concerned about. I dont really want to steam them out with my iron (a steam generator one) in case I get water droplets on the satin. Does anyone have any ideas? I am gonna leave it in the bathroom tonight so that the steamy atmospehere from our showers in the morning can loosen them. Other than that- anyone know of any tricks to get rid of them?
    Thanks in advance

You could try going over it gently with a hairdryer - start with a warmish temperature rather than hot and see how you get on.

Tip was given to me by the lady who made my satin wedding dress.
  • Hi, I got my wedding dress from ebay from china and it was absolutely perfect, you pick your size and confirm all measurements by email and they will make to your size, the dress looked amazing, I was a bit worried about ordering from china but dont be as your daughters dress will be different to everyone elses, ten times cheaper and it will look as good if not better because they do a brilliant job, half of the more expensive dresses are probably made in the same place but just cost so much more !!!!!!!!!!!!

dd1 got her dress from kays in the sale £50 3 years ago shoes next clearance shrug debenhams sale etc..
dd2 has prom this year she is super fussy & was considering going to a shop in croydon but managed to find one in tkmaxx £45 she loves it- just gotta get shrug-she wants a pashmina, shoes jewellery tiara should be all finished by march.
i now from dd1 some people paid upwardsof £400 for dresses & tbh my dd1 looked equal if not better than many of them at the end of the day you dont wear the price tag!
just a quick note lipsy do long dresses quite popular with young'uns & they always have quite a good array in next clearance- recently got my dd's 5 'party' dresses in there for £100 when they were in lipsy would have been over £300.

Thanks for some of the suggestions.....my dd has her year 11 prom in June and I know its going to be hard to find a dress that she'll actually be happy in. Being arty and a textiles student - she wants something a little different. I already know she won't wear a traditional prom dress, or anything strapless and she doesnt like satin.

She's also said she doesnt want me to pay a lot for a dress, seeing as she's only going to wear it for one night. <phew>

She's even <gasp> threatened to go in her converse boots!!

LOL.....luckily theres a prom show next Wednesday so I've offered to take her and couple of mates in the hope she might get an idea of what style she likes.

DD went to 6 proms over 7 years (gulp) in school & Uni (4 year course).
Cheapest dress was £35.10p (got 10% discount due to loose beads) from TKMaxx.
Most expensive dress was one she paid for herself from Accesorize (£80-ish) from savings.
In her second year at Uni we found an amazing rail of reduced & Blue Crossed dresses in Debenhams and bought 3 - less than £90 after DH got discount for opening a CC.
Unfortunately, most of them were only worn once - and are still in the attic!

  • we got my daughters prom dress a couple of years ago from tkmaxx, you do have to keep bobbing in though as someone has said as stock is moving all the time. hers cost £40 and was previously £160. it was a satin, strapless knee length dress which she has been lucky enough to wear to a wedding since. so great value

Remembering my prom around 4 years ago, I went to the local alternative shop and bought a beautiful purple dress with black spots for £30, along with some shoes from shoe zone for £15 and some tights from primark for about £1.50.
Try nipping to your local town centre and looking for independent stores rather than looking in traditional prom dress shops and big chain stores.
Also it's worth checking out charity shops, The ones local to us often have wedding dresses, prom dresses and full suits.
There are also a few online options that won't break the bank, Try searching 'prom dresses' on preloved.co.uk or try frockery.co.uk and also buyselldress.co.uk

Steamy atmosphere in the shower room is what I'd recommend. Used to sell wedding dressers and we'd user a steamer.ma dry cleaner would probblybhav e one and might steam it if you get really stuck.
