Can I shoot my neighbour's dog?

Bet that got your attention.
The problem I have is my neighbour's dog (young Jack Russell) is coming in to our property and chasing the hens. It has already killed one just before Christmas and yesterday it was back again and left one in a state of shock (will find out shortly if she is OK).
Short of shooting the damned thing what can I do to put a stop to this? I feel now that the dog has started this behaviour it will not stop and they need to get rid or rehome the dog. They have another dog that does not yet appear to be involved but I am sure it will soon learn from the wee one what a great game it is.

That's the thread title of the year so far for me :rotfl:
But seriously, it shouldn't be your flippin' problem at all!! What do the dogs owners have to say about it? Why can't they control / detain their own dog? Have you mentioned you are going to kill their dog if it touches one more feather on your girls' bottoms?
Next time I saw it in my garden, I'd be tempted to get the dog warden involved (if you have one). Maybe a financial fine to get their 4 legged friend released will make them see sense.
I wouldn't be expecting a Xmas card next year though

Their title deeds are quite clear eave erect a "stock proof fence", clearly it isn't. The bought the plot from the family and that condition was put in but I guess was aimed at keeping the beasts out.0 -

Their dog is worrying livestock and as such I would be fully justified in shooting it. Although neighbourly relations are not good taking that course of action would obviously really lower the bar. And although our dogs rarely go in to their garden you just never know.0 -

They have been away since just before Christmas When chook was killed. They have a girl doing their horses and dogs.0 -

Depends how good your aim is.0 -
Go and speak to them first and tell them of the problems.
If they are still away go and speak to the girl doing the horses and dogs and TELL her to keep the dog under control.
Once you have spoken to the neighbours, who by the sounds of it are unaware of what has happened, discuss the fence and control of the dog.Breast Cancer Now 100 miles October 2022 100/100miles

Put a hole in your other fence and protect your chicken coup.
Dog comes in, can't get to chickens and escapes through other hole.... Neighbour chases dog around town till they catch it.

Neighbour gets bored of chasing the dog around town and fixes their fence.0
