hello Spud17-I've tried that but mine saves as Wordpad, whether I use Libre Office Writer or just plain Wordpad. When I save it in .rtf it opens up in Wordpad. So despite being in Wordpad can someone just confirm for me that this will still be 'MS Word compatible'?
The instructions I have say 'do not use Notepad'. I'm worried that Wordpad's like Notepad-sorry to harp on about it but I want it to be right.
    Thanks

That's why I tried it. :) You don't have Word installed, so it's not there to open your .rtf file.
    Move along, nothing to see.

Never heard of it. Is it just a skin of OpenOffice (which is free anyway)?

new version of Libre office released today - LibreOffice 3.4.5 Final (2012-01-16) http://www.libreoffice.org/download/
  • For those who are currently using Openoffice, such as myself, is there any advantage in downloading libreoffice? Will it overwrite OO, or do I have to uninstall OO before I download libreoffice.

It's a separate product so no it will not over write nor do you have to uninstall.

OK so it's a separate product although based on the openoffice architecture. Presumably, documents (such as spreadsheets ) I already created in OO would be accessible with libreoffice - is that right?

Tried this and it's looks good. Ok for free but wouldn't pay for it whilst Libre Office is free.

    Hello,
I need to send some reports using MS Word or 'Word compatible software'. I don't have Word, but was looking at the suggestions on this thread. Does anyone know if openoffice or libreoffice or abiword are 'Word compatible'? If not, can anyone suggest something cheap that is?
    Many thanks.

    Me again.

I've prepared the document and saved it in .rtf. It reopens in Wordpad, but apparently that's MS Word compatible, so no problem. The problem I have now is that the links I inserted in Libreoffice do not work when saved and reopened in Wordpad. They are blue and the pointy finger comes up when I hover over them, they just don't open. I'm guessing it's because Wordpad doesn't hae the link facility. I would really appreciate it if someone could suggest a way around this as I'm losing the will now.....thanks
